I know he's probably not even on campus yet, but how comical would it be if he got playing time in the O&W game, and threw for 250+ yards.

Oh, the discussions we would have over the next 4 months, :eek:lol:

Does this kid have any shot at winning the qb job? I know it's not in game situations, but he appears to throw the best ball in practice videos.

IMO, No. It does go to show that sometimes not having that 4th or 5th QB on scholarship may not be that big of a deal. When you get to your 4th or 5th guy, the season is in serious trouble anyway. Wegzyn looks to be a very decent #4 at this point.

He was no longer the starter at UMASS. UMASS. That alone should pretty much put things in to perspective.

And to answer your second question, if he does it means that we are either 30 up with 3 minutes to go, or we are in big trouble at the QB position.

This. Pretty sure he struggled at UMASS, so he won't be playing in the SEC.

Because he is a Vol and some have mentioned he has looked pretty good in camp thus far. Some apparently wanted to discuss it. No different than bumping any other kids thread and talking about them IMO. I myself feel that once a kid is signed and a Vol his recruiting thread should more less be moved over to the FF forum as they are no longer a "recruit", but it does not look like that is happening anytime soon. If people can bump TKJrs thread and it's cool, this thread is no different.

This. I would rather have the discussion here than in the FF. It gets too crazy over there.

Besides, I don't think the 'bump' privilege is abused in the RF. It normally doesn't last long and typically happens the most during dead times. Makes for entertaining reading.

Sigh

No slight towards him, but If he won the job, we are looking at a 4 win season. A strong showing might put him 3rd on the depth chart

This. Like I said earlier, if he is playing and we are not either 30 up with 2 minutes to go, or 30 down with 2 minutes to go, then we are in big trouble. Four wins might be pushing it.

He couldn't start at UMASS. UMASS. Think about that for a minute.

Your wrong, Wegzyn started as a Freshman at UMASS

Don't kid yourselves, our QB play last year was AWFUL and most expect it to be this year. From what I've seen on film this kid isn't that far off to take us from bowl eligible to 3 wins. We should be a run first team anyways. Even with the WRs we have unless a QB is an efficient passer, I'd rather see 60-65% of Hurd, Lane, Scott, etc powering through defenders...

Does he start or really even play at UT? Probably not. But I'd imagine throwing to our WRs compared to that first year in FBS UMass team's isn't that close. He's the first QB to come off the bench not on scholarship IMO if need be (God forbid). That's great for him and us IMO.

From everything I've read on him, Wegzyn looks really good throwing on air but is a terrible in-game decision maker, thus why he lost the starting gig at UMass. He does look good in most of the practice videos I've seen. Unfortunately, good decision-making is pretty much what we need right now.

Maybe I am crazy, but I think Wegzyn could end up being 3 deep this year. And if we have another injury filled season, that could put him under center. I really think he could end up being neck and neck with Peterman...and between the Peterman flop, and Wegzyn having more in game experience, he might get the nod.

Of course, that would require Worley and Dobbs being unable to play at the same time.
