Inside linebacker
Virginia Beach (VA) Kempsville

Height: 6-foot-1
Weight: 214 pounds
Forty: 4.56 seconds
Shuttle: 4.4
Vertical: 31 inches
GPA: 2.5
Class: 2011 (High School)

With four unofficial verbal offers in hand and several more colleges from coast-to-coast entering the fray for his services, the rising 2011 prospect from Kempsville will be a hot commodity from the Commonwealth next season. With impressive showings at camps and combines throughout the Spring and Summer, including gathering the linebackers MVP award at the Ultimate 100 camp in New Jersey, Hughes is a giant blip on the recruiting radar screen right now and will continue to grow over the next two years. With elder brother Trenton a defensive back at Maryland, Travis will have the luxury of having experienced voices in his ears throughout the process.

one thing I have noticed over the years is that teams that recruit nationally, such as Tennessee, will target states in which there are coaching changes. I kind of looked to see who the players are in Virginia since Groh was axed and this kid's probably not going to Maryland with their trouble. He seems to have the talent to play in the SEC.

This guys brother plays at Maryland and he seems to be an early Maryland lead. He also seems to have an affinity for Oregon.

"It's scary to see this recruiting thing," Tony Hughes said with a laugh. "Oregon, Southern Cal and LSU are all after him. I know Lane Kiffin is all up into him. Southern Cal's very hot to trot on him. A lot of colleges have come by. Georgia came by the school this week and made an offer.

"He's got more than 20 offers. Texas Tech, Kentucky, Tennessee, Michigan, Penn State, East Carolina, North Carolina State, UConn and Oregon have offered."

At the moment a half-dozen teams sit atop Travis Hughes' preliminary shopping list.

"Right now he likes North Carolina, LSU, Maryland, Virginia Tech, Clemson and Southern Cal," Tony Hughes said. "Those are his top six right now."

I have a friend at his high school. I'm making them talk to him about UT.
( Not that it would do anything XD )

"I am interested in the Vols, definitely," he told InsideTennessee on Wednesday night. "I have a good rapport with Coach Chaney. He dropped by the school a couple of times. I haven't had much contact lately but they have one of my boys, Justin Hunter."

"Coach Chaney is wanting me to give 'em a chance," Hughes said. "A lot of people around here are wanting me to go there. I don't know that there's a lot of Tennessee fans in this area but I keep running into them."

UT made Hughes' final 8.

We are sitting outside the top 5 but he is listening.

Great news. Guess UT just needs to keep giving him attention. We definitely need him. Hope playing time is one of the things on his list of things that he's looking for in a school. After this year, I could see him starting as a frosh.

Would be the biggest get in the class outside of Antonio Richardson and Gabe Wright imo.
