Hmm. Lived in LC 27 years. They are even renaming streets in Wichita for this game:
WICHITA, Kan.- The City of Wichita renamed Waterman Street Play Angry Place at an outside ceremony that took place on the corner of E. Waterman St. and S. St. Francis at 2 p.m. today.
Waterman Street is the street thats just south of INTRUST Bank Arena which runs east and west. The street renaming will remain in effect for one week.
Reminds me of 1979 or 80 when I was a youngin' in Lenoir City and LC was playing Maryville in the playoffs. Someone painted all the STOP signs in LC with "Maryville" under STOP. It stayed there for years.
Wudrwu, how is DJ Bowles doing this year? He's from my area. Played at Cleveland high and then transferred to Oldsmar Christian for his senior year in the Tampa area. Is he getting minutes?
Huh?
First of all, for full disclosure, I'm one of many fans who grew up a Vols football fan and a Memphis BB fan so I am a Memphis homer, but I also follow the Vols. You seem to have some BB knowledge, so I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and say you laced them up at some point in your lifetime.
My point was simply this: If someone came on here and made that same argument about Pastner's record against UT you would have been the first poster on here to say that it makes no difference, you can't have it both ways. Either coaching "head to head" matters or it doesn't. Now carry on..........................
Band wagoner IMO
welcome to VolNation :hi: glad to have you here,I all ways like to here other fans perspective of the game and thanks for the information
I wish your team well other than when they play the Vols, it should be a well fought game from both sides,I do hope it goes down to the wire and the Vols win
don't run off after the game is over ,hang around and you will become a Vols fan too
Win or lose Saturday stick around man we would love to have you here. We don't mind opposing team fans at all if they are knowledgeable, respectful, and aren't trolls and you meet all of those categories. It's good to have some insight of the other team.Believe it or not, I have a soft spot for UT already. There is a little history between the 2 schools in addition to reasons that are fond to me personally.
As a kid I was a big fan of Bernard King, one of my favorite players of all time for reasons I can't really explain.
Former Associate Head Coach at WSU, and current HC at Colorado, Tad Boyle was an assistant at UT before coming to WSU with Mark Turgeon. I have a ton of respect for Coach Boyle and he is missed in Wichita.
Of course there was the matchup to go to the Sweet 16 in 2006.
There is some baseball history including the Vols knocking us out of the 2005 Regional in Knoxville.
There was a CLASSIC football game that someone has uploaded to YouTube from '79 I believe. A tight game, tied at 21 late when Anthony Jones broke free on a crossing route and was headed for what could have been a game winning TD until he wandered out of bounds without being touched. Must have been one of those hands reaching out of the ground they were talking about in "The Blind Side".An interception shortly thereafter, and a subsequent FG as time expired gave the Vols a 24-21 win. It didn't mean anything at the time, but as a kid, watching your team battle mighty UT to the end was fun to say the least.
Just a little of the history between the 2 schools. Obviously I'll be rooting for WSU Saturday, but I expect a hard fought, competitive game, and I certainly appreciate Coach Martin's willingness to play a home and home with WSU. Most coaches don't have the guts and Coach Martin will always deserve the admiration of WSU fans for scheduling this series. Series like these really SHOULD happen more often, they just don't.
I saw where the D.J. Bowles question was answered. He was a guy who came in ready to help us from day 1. He is missed, but he is alive, and that is something that you can't put a price on.
