Lol so let me get this straight....

he's mad at dooley and ut for telling him its a possibility that he may not be taken as a commit.... but he's cool with uga stringing him out to nsd in case they don't land the guys they want???? and uga STILL hasn't offered a scholly lol.

makes a whoooole lot of sense.

he needs to pick duke and get it over with.

That was the exact same thing that struck me when I read it. Hilarious.

Henderson's a joke. He's not even smart enough to realize that he's being played by UGA. If they really wanted him then he would have already gotten an offer. We're upgrading in talent in all areas, he needs to get over it.

Michael Carvell bringing the heat. I was not that big of a fan of his after he replaced Chip Towers, but he is quickly becoming one of my favorite writers. He's going after everybody.

Dooley failed to hold a commitment to the kid. Kid was a rock to Tennessee, and we told him to go elsehwere, that we didn't want him as we originally said we did.

That's disgusting, but I can accept that as the price we pay for regaining relevance. Other schools do this too. It's part of the game. But I think we should at least own the position that it's a pretty pathetic way to run the program, that it has caused some problems in the GA HS coaches group, and that it is evidence of poor talent evaluation. This is not a good thing. Getting better talent is a good thing, and we will, but we should be honest and say this is a somewhat shameful way to do it, and I hope we progress to the point where it's no longer necessary.

one can't get upset about these kind of circumstances. everyone, and every organization is going to look to be the best they can be. it's no hard feelings, just business. i would do the same thing. that is just the way our society works and one can't be mad at others if they fail to meet what is required or expected.

To Khalid, good luck where ever you go. but just know, it's time to grow up and face the world for what it is.

the university doesn't have any obligation to anyone. academically or athletically. if you aren't good enough then all you can do is try harder on your part. the commitment is to the university not the other way around. it's about holding yourself to a higher standard and going through with set goals to make yourself better. the university isn't going to turn anyone away that gives them the opportunity to progress.

I understand that the kid is bitter. That's the natural response. I wish him the best going forward.

The funny part is we have a big number of posters that believe these kids are told that this might happen before they commit to us. They claimed after it happened to Cross that until a kid said something negative to the press they would continue to feel that was the case. Now they just turn the kid into the bad guy. A lot of dodging of reality around here.

Honestly, I can't imagine how hard this was for Henderson. He committed and thought UT was committed to him too. It works in reverse too but when a player de-commits the "victim" is a coach. I really do understand that this was painful for him.

HOWEVER, he was given indications earlier from the reports we've heard. He didn't want to hear it obviously... didn't want to believe it. But it wasn't until DD bluntly recommended that he look around that he "got it". He can blame UT but before the signing restrictions... he would have never been dropped. The rules are tough and you have to do the best you can within them whichever side of the deal you are on. UT has no choice but to find and sign the best players possible. I just hate it had to happen to a kid who sounds so solid.

Not sure I am following you. Are you saying that kids believe that only they can break their "commitment" prior to NSD? They ALL know better than that. I have no direct knowledge but it was suggested that this kid was receiving indirect indications for awhile. Maybe he was and didn't want to hear it. Maybe he wasn't and people are just trying to rationalize something that seems to reflect poorly on UT.

But the bottom line is that virtually all top programs do this and as these new recruiting restrictions really begin to take hold... you will see it MUCH more.

exactly.

Henderson needs to accept that in the coaches professional judgment, he wasn't the best available player for UT. It's a business about winning. You win by getting the best talent into your program. They obviously didn't think Henderson was the best available. If anything, Henderson should channel that and use it as fuel to prove people wrong and become a better player.

I understand that integrity, character, etc. goes into a player's evaluation, and I'm sure CDD and the staff did their homework. So there really isn't a whole lot to see here. Dude needs to move on. It's only going to hurt him worse by lingering on being "let go" by UT.

To clarify. There are a number of posters that will argue to the death that kids like henderson were told BEFORE they committed by the staff that they might be asked to look around later. Look back in this thread and you will see some great heated discussion about just that subject. No chance that is correct IMO

Cross is an example of a kid who is handling it correctly. I know Henderson feels jilted but blasting UT in articles and on Twitter isn't helping things.

Plus, if he's really 185, I'm glad we moved on.

Good point. We knew about the questions concerning Cross' commitment early, too. He went about it maturely and professionally.

I hate that Coach Cut said that but that guy has earned some grace in my eyes. He was a great OC at UT for years and years. I think we should cut him some slack (at least this time)

Cut isn't the only coach that will use this against us. Hopefully the negative pub won't be a huge factor but going forward I really hope we are more careful with taking some of our early commitments.
