'12 GA RB Imani Cross (Nebraska Commit)

I know, I was mainly just making a point that I used to believe the same at RB, but I have seen too many busts or semi-busts at UT over the years to believe it anymore. You would think that RB would be the easiest position to predict success. Brown and Uko have to be the biggest disapointment to me because they were both so highly sought after and hyped. At least C. Houston worked out pretty good for us after we took he and Davis that year. If you know what I mean.

Yeah I know. But during that whole period when Fulmer was in decline then over into Kiffin... UT seemed to get a disproportionate number of over-hyped guys. It is tempting but not legit to generalize OUR experience.

RB is still the position where things the recruiting svcs can measure are very indicative of future success: size, speed, quickness, strength.

Some of these busts could be due to the condition of the program when they came in. I know it is La Tech but Creer is having a good year and had a decent game vs MSU.

BTW, it is interesting to see Tajh Boyd succeed this year. That seems to validate Clawson as a recruiter somewhat.

It's not a maybe in it. Lacy would be our No.1 guy here easily. He breaks tackles consistently every game.
I have watched him play a couple of times this year. Sorry. Don't see it.

He plays behind a great run blocking OL. Let him deal with what Lane and Poole have dealt with before the coronation.
I've said it before and will say it again, Poole wouldn't start on any of the good teams in this league.
A) You don't know that. B) It is not relevant at ALL to this discussion. Poole's talent or lack thereof neither proves nor disproves Lacey's talent.
Some of you guys need to take off the Orange shades.

And you need to NOT try diversions. I don't have anything against Lacey. However when Richardson ran behind Ingram, you didn't see much if any drop off. When Lacey goes in for Richardson... there's a big drop off.

Imani Cross, HT: 6'1 WT: 220 40: 4.5

John Clay, HT: 6'1 WT: 225 40: 4.5

Stevan Ridley, 6'0 WT: 211 40: 4.6

Jacob Hester, HT: 5'10 WT: 235 40: 4.7

Peyton Hillis, HT: 6'2 WT: 245 40: 4.7

Michael Turner, HT: 5'10 WT: 240 40: 4.5

I'll take a Clay, Ridley, Hester, Hillis, or Turner on my team any day.

Dooley is wanting a RB that he can give the ball to 25-30x a game & not get worn down toward the end of the game. He wants a RB that punishes the defense & by the 4th quarter they dont want to hit our RB anymore. Idc if Cross runs a 4.9 40, if he can get 4-5 yards a carry & move the chains I'll take that all day.

Cross is going to be a beast for us, and it's not based on his HS stats. The kid has great vision and great size. He should be ranked higher, but Rivals always wants a guy with "breakaway speed." I'd rather have a RB that truly averages 5 YPC than a RB who hit a home run once a game and then gets 1,2 yards a pop in most of his other carries.

LeGarrette Blount Scouting Report
Position: RB
Height & Weight: 6'1 - 240 lbs.

NFL Combine Results
40-Yard Dash 4.62
Bench press 19
Broad jump 9'09
Three-cone drill 6.85

I want Cross to become this. We need a bruiser that can smack defenses in the mouth. JMo is right.

Forgot all about Blount, IMO Cross is in the mold of him.

Agreed. He looked great on Monday night against the Colts. I don't know why some people are scared of the big man in the RB position. Look what Bettis did in his career.

I was looking for Blounts HS Rivals profile & couldnt find it but I came across his JUCO profile, I didnt realize Blount went to the same JUCO as Lanier & the one that Autry & Jacobs attends right now (East Miss. C.C.)

Also, his JUCO profile has him at 6'2 245 & a 4.5. He had 3 offers Oregon, FSU, & Memphis.

It's always interesting looking back at those profiles for players that make in the league. I didn't realize he went to JUCO at East Miss. Small world. What a strange trip for him. First, Miss. then to Oregon, Nashville, and finally in Tampa.

I love going back & looking at guys Rivals profiles that are in the NFL right now. It's amazing how many I run across that werent highly rated but are pretty good NFL players.

I will admit this though, if you go back & watch Cross Sophomore film, then his Junior Film, & then watch highlights from a few games this season you can easily see that he has added weight each year, you can tell he has def added a lot more weight this season & looks to have lost a step from his Junior year. Maybe his injured or hampered by something but it's obvious to see he is slower this year. I hope they release a full Senior season highlight video to see how he looks instead of just being able to see a play or two.

Blount certainly did this during his college career.

One of my favorite NFL players, though.

CRM will work that baby fat off him in a hurry. I'm excited about Cross and Hill. But in the end with the weight, I think he'll be find.

Big time.

Or, another thing I've been doing lately is running back through and looking at position rankings compared to how good they are now.

I do that a lot too.

I think its safe to say that Rivals gets about 70% of their ratings right but I've seen some that they missed bad on.

Yeah, they definitely miss badly sometimes.

One thing (as an outsider) that I like and think is the case... Dooley certainly has a plan in mind that fit what he, wilcox, and chaney are looking for. Yeah, I know, every coach does this. But like, Justin King... I think he's actually one of the most prized recruits in this class because he has a chance to be a star, even if he is rated lower

I saw this quote on Grantland and immediately thought of everyone discussing Cross and whether or not he has breakaway speed or whether he will be a bruiser. I thought it was a pretty funny quote.

And ex-Cleveland Brown and Minnesota Viking LeRoy Hoard — a physical, bruising former running back — famously (though perhaps apocryphally) described his running style as the antithesis of the space player: "If you need one yard, I'll get you three yards. If you need five yards, I'll get you three yards."

I guess no updates :(, that sucks. I look forward to Cross' beastly stats each Friday night.
