#12 ranking in AP Poll

And his parents and Dabo. Don’t forget them 😂

Word has it ESPN is producing it's first 60 for 60 on the many facets of Klub Cadenick and his entire ancestory all the way back to the middle ages. Industry insiders have reported that ABc/Disney execs are divided over this. Some are wanting a mini series. Time will tell as film crews descend on the South Carolina foothills.

Preseason polls are terrible. I guess they are good for creating early season matchups but they are worthless. Just make it hard for some teams to climb the rankings and unfairly helps the highly ranked teams fall less when they lose.

I agree they got 1-4 right based on record. It’s what they they did with 5-10 or so that was a sham. Every team but Clemson had the same amount of losses and struggled more vs a weaker schedule and, as was repeated at the time last year, bama and lsu both had losses to us as well but were ranked ahead of us at one point. Letting saban have his own moment to plead bamas case was the cherry on top.

For the record, I don’t care where the preseason polls rank us, it’s still a nice change to start the season ranked.
Yeah, I understand your point here. But on the bright side of things. No team has gotten into the playoff with 2 losses. If TN ends the season with only 1 loss they make the Playoff. I’d be shocked if this wasn’t the case.

Too much team speed for Washington, Clemson and Peen. St.

That's ok, let them ignore us now, as we climb up through the year they will have to address the Vols by the end of the year.

GBO

Some good soul with lots of time and a love for statistics should take all the AP members that vote and track how accurate their preseason picks are. If you are less than 50% correct at the end of the regular season, no vote for you next year.

with us starting ranked 12th... how do we move up the rankings from there? Teams above us have to get beat by a lesser team, or we have to knock off Georgia or Bama. Meanwhile teams like Clemson can skate through most of their schedule

I can't wait for the extended playoffs

You're right. On the other hand, there are a TON of possibilities for teams above us to lose in September and October. For instance:
  • Either LSU or FSU has to go down on 3 Sep
  • Texas will likely lose to Bama on 9 Sep
  • Either Clemson or FSU will drop the other on 23 Sep
  • Oregon has a good shot of knocking Washington down on 14 Oct
  • Same day, USCw and Notre Dame have their pillow fight ... someone's gotta lose
And that's all before we meet Bama the TSIO.

So really nice chance we'll be somewhere around the #5-#6 spot when we face the Gumps. Win that, and we'll be Top 5 for sure.

The only ossification in this year's Top 15 is UGa and Michigan. Neither of them have one single solitary challenge anywhere on their schedule until November. They'll probably hold down the #1-#2 positions for months.

But we can do something about the UGa part of that equation, come mid-November.

Go Vols!

Seems low but I suppose it doesn’t really matter so long as we take care of business on the field.

I hope these guys dominate this season.

There’s such an expectation bias in football. Not only do you have to be better to get ranked higher, you have to over-prove it to a bunch of journalism majors who make semi-educated guesses.

What a system! Lol
