12th Ranked Recruiting Class....How High Will We Go?

I say we're 6th to 7th with an outside shot to crack the top 5...

I figure Irvin is a 4* with 5* being possible...Brown is surely a 4*...

Fulton in all likelihood will be 4* before it's over, Taylor and Harris have a shot at 4*...

I think Ambles could get a 5th star if he keeps putting up performances like last week (275 yds)...

My prediction is 3 fives, 15-16 fours and 9-10 threes...

In a normal year that easily lands us in the top 5 and 1-3 in the SEC...but Bama, UF and LSU are once again racking up...throw in Texas and USC and I just don't know if my prediction will crack the top 3 in the SEC or the top 5 overall...

Regardless...it'll be a helluva class

Can only sign 25 this year, if I read the new SEC rules correctly. 3 fives and 16 fours will get you a top 5 class--any year.

When the two new 4star player (Irvin, Brown) are factored into the team rankings, I expect us to be ranked at 7-9. It's looking good for UT to have a shot at being a top 5 class. We are going to be able to sign 3 or 4 more players than alot of schools, and we are just taking studs from here on out...

Both Brown and Irvin got 4 stars
Tennessee Commit List for 2010

Here now have 8 ****4 stars and 9 ***3 stars
which puts us 3.47 ave

They haven't updated the team ranking yet...we should end up around 7 because of the exact numbers with Georgia.

I feel strongly that we will finish up well inside the top ten. I think it is also important to note the evaluation process this staff goes through before taking a commitment. By all accounts it is in-depth and more than what most programs complete. They spend a great deal of time reviewing tape and reviewing grades. This is why we had only one player who did not qualify from 09 and why we had so many freshmen on the field last Saturday. They know it's not about who you sign but who can play.

We will probably be 1 spot behind uga...they have 1 additional 4 star that isn't currently included in their point total.

We will be behind UGA. They have 5 players who are rated 6.0. We have only one 6.0, Ambles...

It's hard to tell if we pass Penn St., but I think we do. I don't think we will pass Texas A&M, they have a solid class at the moment. They have one less 4star, but they have 4 more 3stars and alot of them are 5.7s...

it's a joke that irvin's not a 5*, his measurables alone warrant that ranking.

Rivals is very particular about giving 5stars to JUCOs. There was only 1 last year. I was actually surprised that Irvin is rated as high as he was on Rivals this early...

Not a recruiting expert by any means, but it would seem to me that the difference between the #1 class in the country and the #10 class would be minimum from a talent standpoint; and that it would be more up to coaching and development after that.

I'd be happy with a #6-10 class considering who we have developing these kids. If we land that, then I'm confident that four years down the line that that class would have been just as successful as whoever landed the #1 overall class.

Guess Fulmer has turned me into a cynic over the years. He sure could recruit some top 5 classes, but that rank never really transitioned to the playing field over the last decade.

The new rule in the SEC has set the limit at 28...is there a reason I don't know about that would limit us to 25?

That's awesome about Irvin and Brown being 4*'s

3 fives and 16 fours would defintely be top 5 in any year I've ever seen...but like I said UF, Bama, LSU, USC and Texas are absolutely loading up....so as hard as it is to believe those numbers could still land us at 6th

IMO...Rivals is risking serious damage to their credibility by keeping O.C. Brown at a 4* and Zach Fulton at a 3*

I agree completely, great post. It seems as though you already know more about recruiting than half the guys that post here. Post often and welcome to VN. :hi:

Just so you guys see how our class is stacking up (from Rivals), we currently have the exact same numbers technically as UGA, (eight 4*s and nine 3*s) who most say has been tearing up recruiting wise lately. Also note that UGA seems to be going downhill, while we seem to be on the rise, which certainly can only help recruiting. We have average a 3.74 stars wise, which is tied with Alabama (even after the Alfy Hill commit), UGA, Penn State and just .07 behind LSU and Oklahoma. The way we are recruiting has almost never happened in recent memory in college football, considering we just got off a 5-7 season. This is a true testament to how well our staff recruits. If the staff is recruiting this well after a 5-7 season, how well do you think they will recruit if they win 8 or 9 games this year?

I'm curious, I read your guys predict that you'll possibly end up with three 5* athletes. I'm curious, who will those 5* be?

On Scout, we already have two (Jacques Smith and Bruce Irvin). I really don't expect us to end up signing any guys that are currently 5 stars per rivals, though we are in it for a few.

I see. I tend to try to stay away from scout because their ratings are so screwy so I really don't know who they have ranked where over there.

What about ESPN(My personal favorite), where do you think you'll finish over there?

I honestly don't even know and care about the ESPN rankings. I saw them once when they came out and saw Demar Dorsey was #11 or something and haven't so much as glanced at them since. Rivals has by far the best rankings IMO, Scout gives out a little too many 5 stars but their rankings aren't nearly as bad as ESPN.

Wow, Demar Dorsey is ranked higher than he should be(I think they based his ranking solely off potential), but I think they have the best overall rankings and evaluations. They're the only recruiting service that use actual coaches and former players to do their evaluations so I tend to trust them most. I like Rivals, but I think Scout is terrible.
