12th Ranked Recruiting Class....How High Will We Go?

Wow, Demar Dorsey is ranked higher than he should be(I think they based his ranking solely off potential), but I think they have the best overall rankings and evaluations. They're the only recruiting service that use actual coaches and former players to do their evaluations so I tend to trust them most. I like Rivals, but I think Scout is terrible.

I personally think ESPN is terrible, but I guess we all have our own cup of tea.

I agree, ESPN's rankings are terrible considering they are a huge sports network that covers almost every sport there is. They should have the best sports analysts in the business to evaluate HS FB, Basketball, and Baseball talent. I mean they already charge for insider information services why not make it worth subscribing to it.

I just don't understand why you feel it's so bad? Have they been off on a recruit or something?

Just so you guys see how our class is stacking up (from Rivals), we currently have the exact same numbers technically as UGA, (eight 4*s and nine 3*s) who most say has been tearing up recruiting wise lately. Also note that UGA seems to be going downhill, while we seem to be on the rise, which certainly can only help recruiting.

This. Other classes are starting to fill up. While these teams are concentrating on a select few players from here on out, UT will have the luxury of being in the mix for a ton of players...

I am fine with a consistent top 10 class even though it may be the 3-5 best class in the SEC. Orgeron and co. are some of the best talent evaluators in the business. They know how to find lower rated players who turn out to be studs. I am also very confident in our staff's ability to coach up the talent once the get on campus. That seems to be the problem at UGA now. They bring in tons of talent, but never do anything with it...

I like that most about our staff; finding lower rated players who turn out to be studs! Some food for thought... Who are widely considered to be the two best defensive players in the pro game today? James Harrison and DeMarcus Ware... Where did they go to school? Kent and Troy... Also, my Titans have the 2nd best CB in the game in Cortland Finnegan, a Samford product.

Not saying we should focus an entire class on finding these diamonds in the rough; because we shouldn't, that would be suicide. But, taking a gamble on a handful every class could pay big dividends. And if I recall, wasn't Jerod Mayo nothing more than a 3 star?

Mayo was a 4star...

imo Haynesworth is the best defensive player in the league. He changes the game more than anybody...

But to further your point, Nhamdi Asomugha is by far the best CB in the league, and he came from a small school as well...

Ha, I was thinking the same thing... On another note, how does a kid from Louisiana of his calibur end up at Cal? LSU missed on that one!

As for Albert... Ugh, hard to justify being the best when you miss several games every year. I would rather have Harrison or Ware, because they are just more durable.

He's from LA as in Los Angeles, not La as in Louisiana.

ESPN has been pretty blatant at rating kids that accept their UA game invite over the Army AA game higher. I also cant personally stand Tom Luginbill (my family knows him, he is a d-bag to the core). It seems Scout is more apt to hand out 5* ratings, but then in other cases, they grade a lot tougher than Rivals (like with Tyler Brays situation). In the end, I think we end up Top 5 on Scout, and Top 10 on Rivals. If we end up pulling 1 or 2 of the 5* guys we're in on (D-Tackle or LB) we could get top 5 on both. But honestly, nobody knows. There is no telling on who de-commits as the season goes, and if we look impressive and win 9-10 games, there may be quite a few kids de-committing from other schools to come ot us.

Most of the players we are waiting on or still in it for are highly regarded players and we have more room than some other schools. I think we end up with a class just inside the top 5 but it won't happen until NSD.

There will be a small handful that we have to wait on until NSD. Be we will be knocking on the door of a top 5 class.

With Meline commiting where does that leave us with Cobbs, Stills, & Dunkley ( even though i think he is UF bound )? Does Stills even still come in for his visit this weekend now?

I'd probably take Patrick Willis over both of them. I think he may be the best LB in the league.

Couldn't agree more... The rivals and scout are a lot more similar compared to espn....there are some serious descrepencies between rivals and espn.

And I think Meline was more of an athlete recruit...he played qb his junior year and only caught 9 passes. His youtube video is very promising...shows incredible size to quickness in the open field....his forty time is legit also...came from the scout south florida combine....
