' 13 FL CB Mackensie Alexander

Derrick Ansley will be visiting Alexander at some point this week. He has stayed in contact with Alexander, and per 247, Alexander has remained in contact with UT.

If somehow UT could pull Alexander.... wow. With him, Bell, Sutton, JRM, and Miles there would definitely be a crazy youth movement in the secondary.

I actually like Ansley as a coach. Hate he'll get shipped out too.

Neither him nor Conklin have showed me anything from a coachinig perspective. I expect good coaches to be able to make players marginally better. There has been 0 improvement in our secondary this year.

People can make the "inferior talent" argument if they want, but what's happened this year is awful.

Would help get the BS from lining up in the secondary.

I would really like for UT to bring in Zook for DBs.... if we can bring in that talent (piss on trying to redshirt them btw), we won't have to put HL on the TE or slot guy. So stupid, that's JV football. No offense but CSS isn't coaching with Bama's D. HL is not C.J Mosley. His personnel groupings on 3rd down are downright laughable.

Do you find Sunseri at most fault for the play of the secondary this year?

Combination of talent and Sunseri. Waggner can't play press man. Yet Sunseri and crew continue to play him. Gordon is getting lit up but they won't bench him. Teague starting over Coleman was a laugher too and it cost us the Florida game(Coleman would've at least pushed Burton out on that big 80 yard gamechanger). Moore is plain terrible and McNeil is just a true freshman and it shows. Orta is an athlete and I don't know why he's not playing(could be on him). Gray and Bonner are two guys that I like a lot(everybody knows).

Sunseri should've realized early on we can't run man all over so he should've started playing more zone to play to some players strengths. But he's bullheaded and needs to be fired like right now.

Thought Sapp or Brewer would be the nickel backers but whatever you know. He's a joke of a coach to me right now. And we're paying 800,000 for this nonsense.

What improvements can you see with cover 0 being called all game? Coleman is a much better player IMO. Waggner is a mediocre athlete at best. Moore not tackling is on who? Not the coaches. And McNeil is another freshman. Gordon is still an undisciplined player.

Sapp played extremely well in relief of 34 in the 1st game but I haven't heard much about him since then. 17 has poor instincts in coverage but at least he will lay a lick on you in the open field... I think they should keep Sal but demote him to strictly LBs coach with a definite pay cut, but there isn't a chance in hell of that happening.

Miami is playing right now and Deon Bush is flying all around the ball. If we get 4-5 good DBs this year followed by next year's monster class, UT will be set.

The class of Lanier, Moore, Randolph, Coleman, Orta, and Thomas was a major bust looking back at it. This last class was the way UT players should look in the secondary. In two years you get 5 DBs that can play at this level. Out of 9 guys. That's 50-60% which isn't good in this league. Tino Thomas keeps having shoulder problems which really hurts us. We didn't land an elite HS DB in the '11 class. This past class had two elite prospects and fantastic sleeper prospect in Gray. That's BS if you ask me.

What's the deal with Bonner? I figured he would have emerged by now (especially with the lackluster performances of 10 and 23). With good and elite DBs, it makes ur D-Line look that much better....

I know Jared Allen is a great pass rusher but he looks elite bc of the great play of Antoine Winfield. Look at LSU, with Peterson, Claiborne, and TM7.... look how good Mingo, Brockers, and Montgomery look now. I know they are great players, but with good CB help, it can really elevate their game to a new level.

The defensive coaches have basically been saying Gray and Bonner have been practicing well. Thing is they're scared to play them.(stupid if you ask me). Miami is playing Bush and Howard. The reason they gave is that they don't want to kill their confidence. But we are starting McNeil as a freshman. So what's the deal now. Then the upperclassmen aren't even playing well in the least bit. Bonner and Gray are players I think will give us some of the best CB play we've had around here as of late man. Coleman will be nice too. Problem is we've only got 3 CBs period I think can play at a championship level.

this. at this point, why not put them both in?

Yep. Or halfway through the UF game. When you're literally not stopping anyone at all, putting in freshmen will at least create competition, and if they get burned, it's no different than a senior getting burned.

From my amateur perspective, the DB coaches haven't improved one single player over last year. I think Ansley can be replaced, he's not a proven elite coach. I wouldn't mind if he stays either, but he hasn't proven to me at least that he's earned it.

You honestly don't think anybody in our secondary has improved? Coleman? and Randolph picked up where he was last year til the injury.

What has pre wagg done this year that is so terrible? It looked like he had a bad game against bama but the busted coverage deal wasn't really his fault. 4 verts is the perfect play against cover 3. He had to pick a WR to break on and picked the wrong one. And cooper just made a good play on that jump ball..didn't help 23 fell down but he was in good position.

They might as well do 9 and 28 like they did Bray his freshman year. I mean hell, what does CDD have to lose at this point... Coleman will be a good player for us. I'm excited to see what Tino can do for us when he gets healthy. If Ansley lands MA, he will start for UT day 1 (no disrespect to 9 or 28), he is the prototype corner that fits the system.

I don't know how anybody can't see the improvement Coleman has made. Gordon and Waggner are just being exposed for what they are. There's only one good player out of last year's group. Waggner's lack of speed at CB is a major problem and probably should've gotten him looked over from the get-go. You can tell the CBs are better coached though. Even terrible Teague is better(funny seeing how bad he is).

Hopefully he won't play under this coordinator. And if Coleman had to wait behind Teague then I doubt this staff would start MA. Also Bonner and Gray won't be easy to pass up at all. Would be war on the depth charts.
