'13 GA CB Shaq Wiggins (Transferring to UT)

What is wrong with some of you? Why would an addition of a good CB hurt to at the very least shore up some depth? We have available room on the roster for him. Injuries and lack of depth on defense may have cost us the SECE championship. I believe a lot of you just want to be negative. wtf?

It wouldn't hurt. I'd take him if staff thinks they need him. I just rather Osborne or Buchanan get those reps if it isn't Moseley or Martin. Maybe even Abernathy so Warrior can be on field. We will have those guys longer and don't see Wiggins as this lock down corner that is a clear upgrade. If he doesn't beat out those guys then he becomes a problem in locker room.

Complete take in my opinion. His experience, ball skills, and run support makes him a starter at one of the CB positions.

I don't think you can pass on a kid that's taken meaningful snaps that is capable of starting and not getting caught out of position or burned on defense.

I might be missing something, but I do not see where this guy has shown that he would be able to come in and immediately contribute. He's stats are weak and he had an injury that kept him out most of last season. I understand wanting to add experience and depth, but does Wiggins actually have any of that over our current players to justify the spot.

I used a wonderful technology called Google, and it seems that Wiggins is a capable player but has suffered from moving around and the injury last season so he has not been able to put up great numbers. I did read this though:

"But in 2015 Wiggins started all 13 games for Louisville, leading the team with 11 pass breakups and earning honorable mention All-ACC honors."

"Before sitting out the 2014 season as a transfer, Wiggins showed great promise as a freshman at Georgia. Wiggins started in eight of the 12 games he played in, leading the Bulldogs with two interceptions and making six tackles against Tennessee."

That all sounds promising. I see why he would be an interesting addition now.

You have to think that he may follow his old coaches at Mississippi state, but who knows . He will make a real big impact on our defensive backfield if he chooses to come here .

Ya, as a 1 year "rental" there isn't much risk in this move. If he's legit, he helps the team. If not, he adds depth and moves on after a year.

You think he would want to make the decision fairly quick so he can get in a program and get rolling..Seasons rite around the corner, every practice counts.

He can either come to Tennessee and compete in the SEC or go to Mississippi state and not compete. up to him.

This is a horrendously dumb convo, one yr and done. He's def a take for depth, experience, leadership, change up, special teams, we play a lot of nickel, should I go on and on? Doesn't hurt recruiting next year and adds a viable body this year to an already rebuilding defense. No we don't want him... SOme of you guys are bat****...

Has someone said he isn't a take?

leadership? and how do you know he is viable? All I have read is that he is coming off of injury. nothing about him breaking out and showing off as his "old" self.

Take him for one season no brainer. Not an investment but butch needs help this year not 3 years from now. Would he count against any numbers besides the total 85?

i don't think so but we are already cutting current team members to make room for the freshman. which is bad enough imo. bad look to bring in somebody for one year that you have no development in, by kicking out someone that has been in the program.

Transfers will occur whether he comes here or not.

One other team note is the potential to add Shaq Wiggins, who is a 5th year grad transfer from Louisville. This appears to be a Tennessee, South Carolina and Mississippi State battle, with his former position coach and coordinator being now in Starkville. He was on campus last weekend and there is some talk he may come back for the spring game. If that happens, then it's a game-changer and Tennessee would obviously be a real factor for the defensive back.

I'd be very surprised if he doesn't go to MSU, Grantham is the only coach to put up with his attitude and Wiggins knows it.
