'13 JUCO DB Riyahd Jones (UT commit 12/21/12)

Any chance he redshirts this year?

If he can play this week or the next I hope we go ahead and put him in. He's a huge upgrade at nickel. I really want to make a bowl game this year and I think he gives us a better chance than Toney (not trying to knock one of our own because I know switching from RB to DB is a very difficult one, but he has taken terrible angles and missed tackles all year) at achieving that goal.

I really don't think we need Jones to beat Kentucky & Vandy. Is wasting a full year of eligibility worth it just for 5 or 6 games? I don't think so, I would rather have him fully ready to go in 2014 & 2015 when we really should start getting back on the national stage.

In most cases I would agree that it wouldn't be worth it for 5 or 6 games but in this instance I think it is. Making it to a bowl game would be big for recruiting and I know the seniors really want to make it to one as well (not to mention the extra practice time which is huge for a young team). And no I don't think the Vandy game is a gimme so I would like to have him out there personally.

I say play him now. The secondary class is loaded next year. And I doubt they stop recruiting at that level. He and Foreman need increased time. Toney and Coleman just aren't in the game to make plays at all.

This. If he doesn't play this year, there is no guarantee that he will win the job next year.

Yeah, if he doesn't get reps this year there's a chance he won't ever see much playing time.

If we redshirt him this year, he would be a RS junior next year. As talented as our incoming class is, if he can't beat out a group of true freshmen next season, how much help is he really going to be this year for 5 or 6 games? I trust the coaches on this one.

Talent and depth will not be an issue in the very near future. No need to sandbag

Get ready for the new normal

We play two top 10 teams. We need to win those. Forget the rs. Win over mizz and and auburn would be huge for tennessee and the future.

I know everyone is saying that we have a talented class coming in and he wont beat any of them out I disagree with you. Yeah these are 4* guys but they haven't played a down of college fb and will need time to develop. I believe most of these freshman won't start. They will get quality play time but wont start. I will like to see Riyahd RS and push Coleman for the other CB spot this summer or at least push for PT at nickle. We need all the talented and fast bodies we can get next year so RS him.

Well... Riyahd is behind because of his injury, and has played as much downs of SEC football as the high school kids coming in. If one of the EE's show up and develop in the weight room, I wouldn't be shocked if he was passed

I'll be surprised if we don't have a freshman starting opposite Sutton by the midpoint of next season.

I agree, but I'd love to see Jones play as a nickel CB next year. Our nickel position has been terrible. Toney gave up a 50+ Yard TD screen pass to Bama because he took a terrible angel then couldn't recover due to his lack of speed. We have to get faster and smarter players at DB in our nickel coverages.

I'd hope he could play outside. We would have two good sized CBs.
