I don't really understand the "Stanford will get me to the NFL." They have a good record recently, but, does that really beat UT's track record of getting guys into the NFL? No.

It's a "what have you done for me, lately?" league. Lately, Stanford has been more efficacious in getting guys to the NFL than us.

You telling me throwing around named like manning and berry and mayo and Lewis doesnt sell recruits.

I think so.

We are a much better NFL pipeline as a program. When you look at a program you have to look at track record/long term

I'm sure those names help, but recruits like what's "hot" right now. UT, as of right now, isn't.

Depends on the recruit I think.

But I think it seems logical and easy to explain - that we were in mess but we are just about to start showing up frequently on the nfl draft list

And we are still the better and more established program.

Dooley explained something like this in a recent article. I think it was the AJC article

And if the numbers quoted above are true with 11 Stanford and 9 ut guys drafted. Considering our situation with roster the last 3-4 yrs that doesn't look too good on Stanford

The reason Stanford and Bama and all these others schools are hot right in is because they're winning, once we start doing that we'll get the recruits and start producing NFL talent again.

This. We have a lot of talent on the roster, especially in the 2011 class, that will soon be representing UT in the NFL. UT will have a very different appeal to many recruits with some positive results on the field this season. Win some games this year and it is going to be hard to keep us out of the SECCG the rest of the decade IMO.

I understand the winning thing.

But we are about to start pumping out the NFL-ers again. Starting with our Jr class

If these kids don't know who Peyton Manning and Jason Witten are then i don't know what to say. Both may have been in the league for a while, but they're both still at/near the top of their positions.

Everyone is assuming Miles is oblivious to our reputation as being a pathway to the NFL. At the very LEAST, our staff has made him aware of it. So he didn't mention it in one article, big deal.

Ya, we are in his top 3. And if you'll go back and read it, you could interpret it as "Stanford doesn't help me get to the league as much, but the degree is worth more if I don't make it." He doesn't once say Stanford will help him get there better than UT.

Wierd and embarrassing that he apparently sees Stanford as an easier in to the nfl.

Yeah we are in a dip but we still have to be top 5 in players in the league surely. If not top 3.

And spare me the different coaching staff argument. Doesn't apply here. Harbaugh left Stanford one yr ago

Re-read the quote. You started a whole 2 pages of nonsense with this post :p

Especially when you consider that we've basically had no senior class for the last three years or so.

I think he was saying more along the lines that they could get him to the NFL but if not he would have a Stanford degree to fall back on.

Andrew Luck= to Peyton Manning in these young kids eyes.

I do think we can beat Stanford for this kid though. Especially with his coach being a Vol alum.

:). You're welcome. Haha.

Well I thought when I read it that it could be taken a different way. But I think it was jmoore who had said something about the nfl thing a couple posts above that. So I ran with it.

Don't complain. Helps the work day go by faster.

Seems a little (read: a lot) premature to compare them at this point.

And the youth thing doesn't matter in this comparison IMO. That would be like saying--Kids thinking Anthony Davis who hasnt played any in the nba is equal to a Jordan or Lebron. Even young ones don't think that way. Or if they do I pity our generation.

Agree. Its all in context. If we are heavily recruiting him (and we are) im sure they have duly informed him of UTs ability to put players into the league, including one Eric Berry. He simply said that Stanford could put him in the league, not that UT couldnt

Yes I agree that our coaches have explained the situation and the opportunities we can give him.

We lost out on a LB from this last class to Stanford didnt we? A 4* out of FL. Don't remember his name

Edit: Noel maybe ?
