'13 VA RB Derrick Green (Michigan commit)

The "mom wants him closer to home" argument is over blown.

Landon Collins mom said on national television that she thought her boy made a mistake chosing Bama over LSU.

Guy's got to do what he's got to do.

thank you for saying this. that has been one of the top reasons why most people on this board think he'll pick UT. i obviously have my preference of where i'd like him to go and i'm by no means acting like i know where he'll chose but this as a meain reason is pretty weak IMO. at this point many things have kept UT and UM as his top two and all of these tiny reasons are things i'm sure he's thought of but i would think (1) where he feels the most comfortable and (2) where he thinks he will have the best chance of success will be what decides it, not where mama wants him or where is colder

I don't disagree with you completely, but I've seen quotes from many recruits saying that staying near home is fairly important to them. Even specifically saying that "mom will have about a 50 percent say in where I go." Saw that quote fairly recently from someone, can't remember where or who though.

Who knows how important that is to Green though, we just know we have mom on our side which is hardly ever a bad thing! :)

Gibson I think

I want DG in this class as much as any other recruit, but for whatever reason, I'd just be really really surprised if it happens. At any rate, I feel like we haven't seen all that Marlin Lane and Rajon Neal have. Things will be ok.

He also went on to say...

TCU is because coach Luper is now there and he was my recruiter at Auburn

... So does that mean he's a silent commit to TCU? DG has had his mind made up since the UA game. He does seem to say 'Michigan' as the first school in a string of schools, but I like to think it's just a smokescreen. If you ask someone a question with a multiple choice answer, do you think the answer is going to be A? It's going to be B or C, guys, 9 times out of 10. It's how the human psyche works. I honestly think it's between Tennessee and Auburn. Come Saturday, if he picks Michigan I'm going to run and hide, but I've been following this guy for a while, psychoanalyzing, and he's going to the SEC. TIFWIW :hi:

On a side note, thanks to the other SEC schools for helping DG make up his mind-- Clowney for showing what happens to Michi running backs at the Outback Bowl, and TA&M and Alabama for demonstrating the SEC's dominance over other schools.

And that will be the only time I thank USCe or Bama. Ever.

You used the word smokescreen. That word makes anything you say hard to believe.

I guess what it really boils down to is does he want to show his talent on the big stage, in the best conference in college football or does he want to play in the 4th or 5th best conference. A player of his talent belongs in the SEC. A player of his talent would be a rock star in Knoxville. Go South young man!! Be a VFL!!

I am sure he has things he likes about all the schools being considered. That said, no two recruits are alike. You can say that being close to momma doesn't matter.... but for some kids having family able to attend their games is all important. I won't claim to be inside his head or his mom's.

From an "exposure" standpoint, even though Michigan's program is a little healthier than UT's right now... UT got more TV coverage last year by a fairly significant margin. The SEC's TV deals are unmatched right now. That creates a bit of an unfair advantage when selling a recruit... the rich get richer.

How is it unfair? The Big 10 doesn't have the ability to negotiate its own deals? The SEC illegally coerced ESPN and CBS?

The only reason he picks here is cause of graham imo. That's if he were to come here.

Whether we get Bell and/or Lawson and/or Green, I think the fact that we are finalists for these multiple 5 star prospects says something pretty great!

If your not 1st your last.

When I was in school, We called that the also participated ribbon.

Glad to see all the hard work CBJ is putting in under less than desirable circumstances, but yeah, I'm getting tired of the moral victories. I want a victory I can sink my teeth into and chew on for a while.

Which I have full confidence we will get with at least one of these recruits.

I think we have a great shot at one. Good shot for two. small chance at three.

There are still some other pretty big fish on our board though, that I think we have a good shot at.

Did I say illegal or unethical? Not unfair as in it shouldn't be done...

It is just something that Michigan has no individual control over that puts them at a disadvantage. The SEC is drawing the best players right now in part because of TV. The SEC was uniquely positioned to get that deal. Michigan and tOSU have great tradition... but happen to be stuck in a conference with teams that simply do not have an SEC level of fan following. Part of that is the NFL's longer presence in Big 10 country too.

not that this means much but the B1G does have their own network but i don't know how available it is across the country. i know it's available on directv and at&t uverse outside of the market but i don't know about the others. plus UM only had a handful of games not on either espn or abc, and those were the fluff games and those were one BTN. how was the UT television schedule as far as the games not against fla, ala, usc, etc?

The time when we could be impressed with coming in a close second for talent... has passed. Tough gig for Jones but he has to get some of these people or he will be about where Dooley was in year 3.
