'13 VA RB Derrick Green (Michigan commit)

Unfortunately Mr. Green's choice will probably leave us with the only thing we have been able to count on as a legion of fans in several years....disappointed

I don't know that I'll be completely disappointed, especially since I've been expected UM. Would love to have him, but there are still some other good backs on the board.

Our rb board has shrunk! We may only get 1! Have a feeling we will see a new offer or two!

If I understand correctly he has told both schools they are his choice? Why would he do that this late and close to his announcement? This one is a head-scratcher to me. Very curious.

I feel like some of you are trying to make Green into Gabe Wright 2.0

Telling two staffs positive things is different than silently committing to two schools.

The recruiting experts who have followed and spoken to Green think Michigan will be the choice, as Green has consistently cited U-M as the leader.

Why?

“Derrick’s relationship with coaching staff and his relationship with some of the other incoming recruits, in particular David Dawson as the two became very close,” Rivals.com Mid-Atlantic recruiting analyst Adam Friedman said today. “It’s a small circle for him, his mother and his stepdad. I’ve had multiple conversations with Derrick and his family members and what I’ve gathered is they obviously want something that’s going to be stable. Out of the three schools, U-M has shown be the most stable.”

after reading this, i'm not betting on Green but one can hope..
This plus the fact that Green completes UM's class. Hoke's focus has been soley on Green for awhile now.

I honestly believe a player of Green stature would do well for themselves by committing to UT.
All the media knows the SEC is king and also respects the tradition of UT's team and the success we have had.
If a marquee player like Green, Lawson, Bell, Bellamy etc commit then other players will begin to feel the momentum picking up.
If UT pulls these types of names, a great deal of attention and excitement will be generated. The media loves a story and the underdog. UT rebuilding to its former glory will get national attention and those players will be highlighted and glorified with credit for the comeback.
I think it would be great exposure for these talented young players.
We just need one or two to commit early to start the hype and then others will join in.
Come on green!!!!

While I hope like hell we are the ones to land Green on saturday, Michigan has alot of tradition itself. They put alot of kids in the NFL. If your a top RB coming out of Michigan, you would be just as sought after as a top RB out of Tennessee. I get that alot of us have the orange shades on. To say that UT is better than UM when it comes to tradition or who could help Green get "exposure" is just an orange tinted conversation. Both schools would be great choices for the young man.

I completely agree. But everyone including the media know how far down ut is compared to our history and the media loves a comeback story. I think he will make quite a story and more of a splash at UT. But yes it is wishful thinking and I do wear orange colored glasses. I love this university and this team..... And I really want this young man in orange. It could be something special!

Name the last Michigan RB that was a starter in the NFL...

I can list off several UT RBs who have had amazing careers.

UM has a lot of tradition. However, orange shades or not, the SEC is easily the best platform in college football. Green should get lost in oblivion if he goes to UM.

Michigan has a great tradition, of course, but like UT it's been down. The selling point here is the SEC, big boy football and major media exposurewhich I'm sure the coaches have emphasized over and over. Doesn't sound like it will be enough. If I were completely neutral and had to pick between the two, I'd pick UT because of the SEC--and we won a national title more recently than the ugly helmets!

Thinking same way. From the sound of things they seem to really like UT and their concern is UT being down lately but if several are going to come they think they can be the ones to turn itaround. Be headed down your way in a few weeks. My mother lives on the Biscayne Bay near Bal Halbour
