Looks like Stuttgart 's finest has a seat at the table. According to 247 he will start...

Thigpen said Wednesday that he expects freshman Jakob Johnson to make his first career start for the Vols on Saturday night in their home finale against 19th-ranked Missouri in place of A.J. Johnson, who was suspended Monday from all team activities for his alleged involvement in a reported sexual assault case.

Jakob Johnson and sophomore Kenny Bynum both could receive playing time in place of A.J. Johnson, Thigpen said. But Jakob Johnson, a true freshman from Stuttgart, Germany, who has appeared in nine games this season, appears likely to make his first career start.

“I expect it to be Jakob," Thigpen said following Tennessee's practice Wednesday afternoon at Haslam Field.

"But I’ll tell you, Kenny’s going to do a good job for us. He knows it. He knows how to do it. He’s been in this system for two years now, and he knows exactly how we want to set the fronts. He knows exactly the lingo we use in all our blitzes. So, if Jakob needs a breather, I wouldn’t hesitate at all to put him in.”

Thigpen said Jakob Johnson has done "great" this week in preparing to take over as Tennessee's starting Mike linebacker, where he will be responsible for communicating most of the Vols' defensive calls and adjustments.

"Again, you keep forgetting he’s only 19 years old," Thigpen said. "He’s a freshman, and you’d never know it. It takes awhile to get that — to line up guys and see the big picture. It’s a difficult position. And, I tell you, you would never know it because of his presence out there today. I thought he was fantastic.

I'm absolutely pumped for Jakob. He was my favorite recruit last year. This is a big opportunity for him to lockdown his claim to the Mike spot once AJJ graduates.

He will be good, I know he is young but hopefully he doesn't make too many mistakes Saturday.

At least in this small regard, losing AJ may help us going forward. Jakob is going to be forced to get some very valuable reps that likely will benefit him for next year.
