I have thought this for a while but after seeing this picture I Think its worth saying.

Bates looks far from physically being ready to play LB in the SEC as a true freshmen. All the talk about him being an immediate factor seems very premature IMO

He will contribute on ST quickly.

What does it take to look physically ready?

Oh yea I buy that he helps in ST

Judging a kids physicality just by pictures isn't fair I realize. The only thing I will say is every pic I see of him he looks smaller than his listed size. Jmo fair or not

Jakob is 6'4" 240 so yeah, Dillon should look slightly smaller in the pic. Doesn't mean he can't contribute at LB this season.

In all fairness, JJ would make a lot of guys look small. There was a picture of Dillon and Johnny Manziel taken before he committed and he made Manziel look like a middle schooler.

Bates listed 6'3" 220lbs looks pretty accurate considering Johnson is 6'4" 240lbs.

JJ made Hurd look tiny too. He's just that big. Bates obviously needs to put on weight like 99% of incoming freshmen, but he's not far from being ready.

JJ is huge no doubt and yes made Hurd look smallish but like I said bates doesn't look his listed size in any pictures I have seen. Not close to 220 judging from the pictures I have seen which I have posted probably isn't a fair way to judge

You're right, it's not a fair way to judge since you have no idea how the picture was taken. You do realize different lenses in camera's and smartphones can distort their subjects... or maybe you don't.

Taking this one photo where you have two subjects in the picture, he measures up as advertised assuming Jakob is 6'4" 240.

Bruin he is standing next to JJ and that guy is huge.:)

Bates weighed in at like 218 at The Opening I thought. It's just bc he is tall. 220 doesn't look like alot when your 6'3 and it looks huge when your 5'11. He will be fine and with his frame he can easily gain 15-20 and not lose anything.

Good post. Sounds like you hit the nail on the head of why the pictures dont do him justice. That weight with that heigth doesn't show that physical in a picture. No doubt he his frame will hold more weight!

This is true. I'm 5'11" and at 215 I was pretty thick.
