The only one who could ever reach me,
Was the son of a preacher man.
The only boy who could ever teach me,
Was the son of a preacher man.
Yes he was, he was,
Ooh, yes he was.

That brings back memories of my too short time in Germany. I remember mostly being in the Black Forest region and Cologne. Was only there for a few days and at one point (I don't remember the town) I woke up, walked around, only to hear an Ode to 1950s/60s American Rock n' Roll in progress. There was some sort of downtown festival and free concert going on and I was actually very impressed at how good the cover performers were!

I also remember snagging a Tina Turner poster from Cologne (the smallish kind promoters in cities around the world put up everywhere for upcoming concerts). Since the pictures I took on my trip didn't turn out foe some inexplicable reason it's one of the few things I have from my graduation tour of Europe. I thought it was so cool that a Tennessee gal like Tina was being advertised all over. (Tennesseans are like that because we're a small population state -- we love finding our locals wherever we can and take pride in their success).

I also remember Germany and later other stops in Europe gave me my first taste of beer since 18 meant I was legal there. I've never looked back and while I can enjoy certain cheap American pilsners as they're pretty good and unoffensive to my palate but I despise the popular American brands like Budweiser. I got spoiled because German beers were my first. Also, people didn't know anything about Tennessee other than Jack Daniels but they were highly complementary of it which always made me smile and made me smile again when you and Jakob mentioned Tennessee Whiskey.

I was blown away by how much the Black Forest and surrounding areas looked like home but on a larger scale for the Black Forest (older forest trees and many of them larger/taller) but your architecture is so much better than our boring modern architecture and don't get me started on the awful ones built cheaply and used for store fronts and so common in newer cities here in the South -- yours were simply gorgeous and would be even if we hadn't been built so many cheap ugly store fronts.

Germany was also one of the few places that had a politeness and hospitality that reminded me of the American South. I don't know if that's common across your country but it stood out where I was.

Now my question... you've showed a consistent love for UT and you did so long before Jakob committed. I know part of it is we recognized the talent and you're proud of Jakob (as you should be) but you really seemed to have fallen in love with our UT and our Vols long before then. How'd that happen?

sorry for my late answer:

so i had really no connection to tennessee until i recognized, that tennessee seams to be the best place for jakob. so i had an early indication what´s gonna happen ;-)

i´m verry excited what´s gonna be in futur. i like to learn everything about tennessee....that´s maybe my german nature....i must learn everything about an interesting place in the world. especially if i gonna visit that place !

i wrote with j the whole time until the first offers and after his 1st visit in tennessee his was "infected"....so it was clear to me, that the vols would be his first choice.

in germany it was hard for many years to get information about us-football...especiall college football...we knew about the team names....but that was all. it was terrible for football fans in europe years ago. peronally, i like college football most.

but, and that´s on you guys, i joined volnation and from the beginning, i felt very welcomed ! I really appreciate it ! thanks to you guys !

I second JCLawyerVol (I can't believe I am agreeing with a lawyer).
Thanks for what you bring.

i´m just very happy that thigpen made the right choice ! i´ve never been convinced about a player this time.

j had a long way to go...started with an email of an fsu-recruter early last year. as a coach and as a former player i know that you need an environment, which is convinced of your abilities.

“it’s an amazing feeling, to see that dream come true[.] “coach thig’ thinks that i can really make an early impact, especially because i’ll be there early and get a chance to go through spring football and stuff,” johnson said. “but me personally, i really wouldn’t have a problem if i would be redshirted or something. I’ll do whatever the coaches think is the right thing to do.

“i’m going to give it my all, and i’m going to try to do everything i can to get out there early and try to do everything i can to maybe get in the rotation and get on the field in spring and fall as much as possible. But i’ll deal with what the coaches say, 100 percent.”

“i love the gym,” he said. “that’s one thing i love about tennessee. They’ve got that new weight room, and everything’s brand-new — every machine, every weight you could possibly, really want. I just want to get in there.”

“i’ve 100-percent bought into coach jones’ vision,” johnson said. “i mean, when you look at tennessee, that’s probably one of the big schools with the most history in college football. When i heard about the 38 (team maxims) of football or something that coach (robert) neyland brought up, i took a look at that.

“i mean, that’s so much of tennessee — so many stories of great seasons, great teams, great players coming out of that school. I really think that coach jones is the coach to put tennessee back up there, back in the spotlight. I’m just really glad i get a chance to be part of a team that does that.”

Johnson also likes the thought of playing MLB at UT:

“If that’s what it’s going to be, I love the mentality that comes with that (position) and just being in the heart of the defense, man-on-man against running backs,” he said. “I mean, it don’t really get no better than that.”

Some great quotes by JJ. Sold on being a VFL.
This guy is pretty big already, I thought he was decent and going to be with that frame. But that picture with Hurd and Big Charles, really made me see what a monster he is. And now a college S&C program, going to be a good one.
MLB or OLB??
