'14 FL LB Jakob Johnson (UT Signee 2/5/14)

Jakob Johnson will be what AJ could have been with a legit strength and conditioning staff that know what they are doing for all 4 years. He has the size just needs someone to make sure he gets quicker each year

I was down on the commit when I first saw his highlights but I apparently must have watched the wrong one because these others that have been posted are much better.

I am not deriding your opinion at all, just letting you know that the staff sees Johnson as the MLB of the future. His evaluation and what they thought about him once he arrived on campus played a very large role in where Kevin Mouhon will be playing football over the next 4 years.
No doubt. The problem with JJ at MLB for me is that I don't see Gavin playing WOLB or SOLB and he's too talented not to play. JJ is also very talented but I think he could play SOLB or MLB.

Again JMO, but I don't doubt he was brought in as a MLB, its arguably the most important LB spot and behind AJ there's nobody. Once Gavin gets here is when I think the move will occur. And of course that's just pure speculation by me, so I could be way off

I don't think Gavin will have a problem playing an outside position, he seems to be fast enough. I think they'll ultimately try them all everywhere and see which combination works best for the team.

To be frank. I do not think JJ cares much where he plays. I think if CBJ put him a QB, JJ would give it his all. The kid is stocked that UT gave him a chance. IMO he will do what it takes to excel where ever CBJ thinks he will fit best. We need more kids like this on the team. I think we are getting them, or so it appears.

Huh? There r slow tall ppl too..

Sorry--yes, there are slow, tall people, too. But not many 6'4" SLOW people are recruited to be MLBs in the SEC.

My point--poorly worded as it was--was to emphasize that it will not be hard for Jakob to be faster than AJ--who looks like Tarzan, plays the run inside the tackles like Tarzan (most of the time), but runs like Jane.

It's no secret that I think AJ is one of THE most overrated guys to ever play the position at UT--2nd only to Fuad's son of a few year's back--and I'm not trying to be over-critical--just factual.

I'm just excited about the athleticism and abilities of our LB recruits for 14 and the possibilities in the '15 class. GREAT LBs are like Porsches in the SEC--NO SUBSTITUTE! :salute:

flame away.......

Factual? Nah. It's your opinion, that is fine. But your opinion should never include words like "fact" or "factual".

You think Reveiz, a former walk on, was overrated? I don't think you understand the meaning of overrated.

I think in a couple years, you'll see Jakob at Mike. I think Gavin Bryant is athletic enough to play Sam. If Sapp can play Sam, then I have faith in GB. I think Bates is fast and heady enough to be a good Will for us.

JMO.

That's what clueless people do...confuse their opinion as fact. Bottom line is this...slower, heavier LB's tend to be the MLB's, rather than OLB's. They typically are assigned a gap between the tackles, whereas OLB's oftern line up over a TE or even a slot WR. Those are typically the slimmer, faster guys.

Case in point, Mante Teo...was a playmaker in college, but was surprisingly slow at the combine. Zach Thomas was not a burner. Colin McCarthy of the Titans isn't either. Ray Lewis lost a lot of speed his last few years in the league. Still made plays

Anytime you put force a MLB to cover a slot WR, it's a mismatch BY DESIGN. Doesn't matter what team or what level of football. What AJ can do about that is disrupt their route by greeting them within the first 5yds, which is legal.

AJ speed is not the problem. Jancek keeping him in on 3rd and long was the problem. No big, slow, run stuffing MLB should be in on obvious passing downs.

Nick Reveiz was the smartest LB we've had the last 3 to 4 years probably

I'd like to see reeves-maybin at linebacker this year. He showed up quite a bit on special teams. JMO, TIFWIW, WHOGIVESAS#%T
