'14 GA S Cortez McDowell (UT Signee 2/5/14)

I hate it when a few select fans make an allegiance of fans look dumb. Just doing my part fellas!
Yup. And someone was like, "I told you about Tennessee fans. They're crazy rednecks." Something along those lines, but the word redneck was used. And he didn't even put "later" before it, much to the chagrin of VN.

"I can't wait to get started," McDowell said. "Just to be around the rest of the guys and build a bond is going to be awesome. I've been working on my own and now I'm ready to go to work."

"I've been working on my technique and just focusing on my individual improvement," McDowell said. "Some of the guys from our area have gotten together for some 7-on-7 work and it's been good to compete."

"Just getting Tennessee back to it's rightful place in the SEC," McDowell said. "We want to be on top and I feel like we are headed in the right direction. I want to bring energy to our team and reclaim our state."

Was there ever a moment when you thought UT was the place for you?

"I'd say it was on a phone call with coach Jones," McDowell said. "We spent about 30-45 minutes on the phone and he made a commitment to me pitching the family atmosphere. I wanted to show I was loyal to him and he made it clear he would be loyal to me, but he couldn't make any promises. It meant a lot to me."

Thanks, it just seems like you'd hear more, you know? I suppose that's what happens when you bring in so many talented young players at once. Still, it seems I've heard specifically about each of the others more often. Just curious.

I've seen quite a bit of positive chatter about him so far. They were talking him up on the radio the other day saying he's been pretty impressive. Big, fast and apparently very physical for a freshman. It sounds like he's just what the secondary needs.

Heard the same. Said he just needs to learn the defense and continue to get better.

Yea he and TKJr look like they've been in the he program for several years. Come to think of it most of this 2014 class looks that way.

Yeah, I like him a lot.

He'll likely come in for more snaps towards the final stretch like JRM did last season.

That's what I'm thinking too.. He was a little behind conditioning wise when he came in, and there's obviously gonna be a learning curve to overcome, but he seems to def have the attitude and skill to play this year.

Was he? Any reports?

Looking forward to the athleticism and speed on ST this year. Will be much better and more physical. Expecting a few big plays esp forced turnovers.

If they can all get down field and make tackles like JRM, we will be in fine shape on Kick Off Coverage.
