'14 IL LB Clifton Garrett

Which DC was able to beat Auburn this year?

Chavis' system is very effective over the long haul, and I'd LOVE to have him back. Even in Fulmers waning years of mediocrity, the defense was one of the best in the country, regardless of "third and Chavis".

This. And don't forget while Johnny Football was slicing Kirby Smart long short deep and wide, he for the most got shut down by "The Chief". Chief is a Vol and people are talking about him like he's the evil enemy. He's one of the best DC's in school history. He's one of the best SEC DC's I've seen in my years.

I would love to see if Chavis could do anything with this defense we have this year.

Aren't you the same one that was saying Les Miles is a bum the other day? Now Chavis sucks. If Chavis were our DC the D would never have gotten to the shape it's in now. His last year at UT our D was 4th in the nation. 4th in the nation!!!! You get a dose of reality....you need to look at our D since he left. Perhaps it's all a coincidence that our D has been in the bottom half of the national rankings since he left, I think not.

You and your "Chavis sucks" comrades are probably sitting somewhere with fat chicks turning your nose up at fine ones. Or you're probably riding around in a pinto claiming you wouldn't wanna be rich because you wouldn't want all those taxes. Perhaps bad analogies, but the point stands.

Oh yeah....many of our fans who have so much hatred for The Chief were also sick and tired of the Cutcliff "dink and dunk". You all can sit there and deny it, but it's true. I'm 100% convinced Volinga was one because I know his type. When the likes of David Cutcliff and John Chavis are no longer good enough for you, you might need to find a new hobby. Tennessee fans need to be honest with themselves and take a long hard look at where they're at.

I'm glad to say I'm not included in that. hated the firing of Fulmer and hated that Chief was thrown out like dirty laundry with him. Hiring Cutcliffe would have stabilized the program, obviously.

That said, he's in a good place with Duke, (Similar to Spurrier/SC) because he won't be on a chopping block if he wins less then ten games. He is a proven winner, and they have given him plenty of time to build up the program..

It would be better I can promise you. How much better I am not sure, you just can't fix "slow" overnight. That and he just doesn't have the players to work with he is used to working with. Over time though, the players would develop more than they have since they've been here.

I would have taken Cutcliffe after we fired Fulmer, and also kept Chavis. He wouldn't have taken it that first year (I know he would have after Kiffin if the assistants deal worked out) but we'd be in far better shape right now with Cut as the coach.

No doubt we would have had 2 or 3, maybe even more, 10+ win seasons since 2008 when Fulmer was fired.

I firmly believe our championship run in the 90s was due to Cut and Chavis, and not Fulmer.

And LSU put 8 defensive players in the draft this year. They are rebuilding and playing this well.

Don't exaggerate like a woman. I said Les Miles is a horrible game day coach and that he underachieves at times. I never said he sucks. I said he was great at recruiting and developing talent.

For the record, I think Chief and Cut are tremendous coaches. I was hopping Cut would've come back, but neither one will because of how Fulmer was done. So if you are going to quote me, quote me verbatim Miss. TIA

I hope Clifton Garrett isn't one of those players that are mythically effected by mbs. Guy would be pissed to see his thread hi-jacked like this. Damn, he might choose LSU just because of it.

Chavis can not take walk-on running backs that run 4.7 in the fourty and make them run 4.4 blanket receivers, and provide great run support. He would have most or all of the same problems we are facing today imo.

If you hand it over to him right now, sure. I said it last night, you can't fix slow over night. Takes recruiting and a certain style of defense to fix it. Chavis was as good as anyone at taking RBs and safetys and converting them into great LBs.
