'14 JUCO DT Davonte Lambert (Auburn Commit 12/18/13)

Mixon is definitely a timely pick up. I would imagine him and Own Williams can be instant contributors on the D-line next year. Hopefully we get something out of any 1 of the 3 between Jaylen Miller, Kendall Vickers, or Malik Brown. Vereen, Saulsberry, Carr, O' Brien, Jordan Williams, and LaTroy Lewis should have another year of development. And guys like Hendrix and Barnett could make an instant impact. I think Joe Henderson will need a year of strength and conditioning as will Mosley for different reasons. And if Cory Thomas sticks I think we won't miss Lambert as much as we think we will. Don't get me wrong, losing Lambert hurts but we have some good players along the defensive line.

Mixon is essentially still a high school kid. Don't expect much next year from him. He didn't play football this past season. (I think)

He signed binding paperwork with Auburn yesterday. That should release us from our obligations with him. While on the surface this appears to be a big loss but JUCO kids are often times bust. There is a reason they're JUCO's.

I was upset yesterday but not so much today. He can say all he wants about rotating 10 men on the line but the fact remains there are only so many snaps to go around. There's a good chance he'll be one minnow in a minnow bucket where you can't tell one from another. That has the potential to effect his draft potential. We'll see how it turns out in the long run. He could have been a super star here, doubt that happens in dead treeville.

FAA is binding until such time as the holder is enrolled in a school.
Signing is just the scholarship aggreement. It is no different than a FAA.
It does not nullify previous FAA, only enrollment does .... according to my aunt.
She works in the FA dept at a D1 school, and deals with compliance issues there.
Its like what happened when kiffy bolted, and oger told kids not to show up for enrollment.

I think you are correct on the Lambert playing time. He will likely not be a starter.
It will likely impact his draft.

Please don't take what I said as I think I know what I'm talking about. You would know better for sure, but I thought he signed LOI with Auburn yesterday as the signing period for EE Jucos was yesterday. LOIs are binding from what I understand and I thought they were different than FAA. Am I wrong on this?

Read back through some of the thread. Well, here are my bitter grapes

JUCO DT's, especially those who spurn UT, or for whatever reason, don't sign, don't pan out very often.

Damien Jacobs: Florida, Who? Exactly.
Ben Bradley: Auburn, a few tackles this year
Toby Johnson: UGA 7 tackles

Even the ones we landed

McCullers: Pretty disappointing, but started
Couch: Never lived up to his 5* ranking
Sentimore: Even though he wasn't a DT, some poster, who I will spare, called him one of the best DL in the NATION when we signed him. He got spry against Bama, but still didn't even accomplish anything in that game.

Chances are, we haven't missed out on much.

Agreed. Very few Nick Fairley like impact players coming out of JUCO.

I don't know that i wouldn't send out some feelers to some of Auburn's other recruits. If any thing just to mess with their heads. A subtle way to let them know they're dirty as hell and we don't appreciate it.

My favorite?

When people check a thread, only to post, "End thread" or complain about a discussion regarding the topic of the thread.

Ignore thread feature: It's easier to use than you think. :hi:

It's probably because they are emotional distraught over the player that went elsewhere. I mean, it's been less than 24 hours since the kid from Georgia announced. So it's still recent news.

Nick Fairly was a guard coming out of Juco. wasn't going to start for Auburn and asked to switch to DL.... rest is history.

Uhhh, no. Auburn sent him to JUCO as a DT. He played DT at JUCO. Auburn resigned him as a DT.

The only time he played OG was in HS, but even then he was playing DT as well.

So our JUCO evals need to improve?

By and large, you get JUCO DT's and OL's with 2 years to play but who are already a year behind on their development. Neither the coaching nor the S&C are BCS level at JUCO... if they were then those coaches would be at a 4 year school. Each year there a few JUCO's who are really ready to play at a high level for a competitive team. Lambert actually looked like one of those. But I would rather they use that slot for someone with 4 or 5 years.

More than just simply losing a JUCO DT it bothers me that we continue to lose these head to head battles with Auburn. Whether it's Tuberville, Chizik or Malzahn at the helm their recruiting tactics may be dishonest but they definitely work...It almost always involves a position of need and the player usually ends up misleading our staff about his intentions. At this point, that is clearly by direction of the Auburn staff. I wouldn't be opposed to instructing one of our commits (like say Malone or Hurd) to jerk their chain something fierce to let them know we aren't taking this crap lying down anymore.

The common theme with Auburn is and always has been they cheat and get away with it. They know how to work the NCAA better than anyone. Cam Newton, Jovon Robinson, the list goes on and on. Plus Garner is good at picking the kids who come from messed up families that he can easily get over on. He knows he can sell his resume to some of these kids even though he's coached far more 4 and 5 star guys who ended up busts in college than those he's put into the NFL. It wouldn't surprise me one bit if they did indeed visit Lambert on Sunday like the articles claims even though it was against the rules. And the whole Tennessee getting a bowl ban for 2 years because of Mo Couch? That is laughable, it takes a really gullible and somewhat stupid kid to fall for that kind of crap.

No, you are correct.
It is still binding.
He would lose 1 year of eligibility as FA office would submit a waiver based on the FAA.
It would be granted, because UT would be on the hook for the scholarship.
It would also count against our 85.
It will not happen because it would cost him a year of eligibility.
I was just stating that it could bite us, and that NCAAa should think about closing that gap.
I couldn't help but to beat the dead horse.
I did it to point out a flaw in the FAA rules that needs to be corrected.
