+1. Lambert will start somewhere on the Dline next year, whether that is DE or DT. The guy is way more explosive than any of the Defensive Lineman on the current roster. Vereen might be close to him but that would be it. Sure Williams has more experience right now, but this is another classic case where you are simply bringing in someone better than what you currently have.
I don't think a lot of our fans have realized how good Da'vonte Lambert is. Don't be fooled by some of the services ratings on him, although JC Shurbutt, an evaluator i actually respect, has him ranked as the 12th best player overall in this years class.
Here are some things for the average fans to think about without having to watch the film to get a sense of what type of guy Lambert is expected to be from those who are very good at this and do this for a living.
- UF has not recruited a single JUCO player this year besides Lambert and Abu Lamin, talented Jarran Reed (former UF signee) is a good example of how selective UF is on their defense offers. Lambert is the only JUCO guy UF went after hardcore and continues to. The day he committed to UT, their entire staff called Lambert and his Grandmother repeatedly for over a week.
They still continue to recruit him consistently. UF's D-line is considered one of the top 2 DL's in the country and they have good depth.
- UGA, UF, Auburn, and UT all put the full court press on Lambert and rolled out the red carpet for this guy. UF, UGA and UT coaches and insiders all felt good coming out of each teams visit and liked their chances and were excited about landing him at various points in his recruitment. All the big recruiting boards for each team were buzzing and discussing after his visit to their school at the time, despite his laughable rivals and scout ranking.
- Abu Lamin 4* a top JUCO DT (currently a USCe commit) is coming to UT to visit, without knowing all that much about our school, mostly because of the advice of Lambert.
- According to a few UT insiders most of us trust, Lambert was the #1 guy at his position on UT's board by a significant margin.
Feel free to draw whatever conclusions you want from this.
