I'm sure you guys will be able to answer to this more than I can. But it seems to me that if he was a receiver in high school he would obviously be completely under the radar at JC as a defensive tackle unless he was just destroying offenses (I was going to say "killing it" or "blowing teams up" but with that name....). He definitely looks good in that film. I've never seen a DT with 17 as his number haha.
Yeah, that's a good point with him being a WR turned DT he probably hasn't had much exposure. My guess is his offer list will be growing soon. Many times JUCO's don't release new film until 4-5 games into their season so look for even more names to pop up in a month or two. And guys like Ward to see their offer list grow quite a bit after more film comes out this fall.
He looks very good in the video Ron posted but you have to keep in mind the level of competition he's playing against. He's playin at Globe Tech College (duhfack is that?). But he does look very athletic for a big man and I guarantee he's not done filling out. He's put on 50 pounds in 2 years. Get him in a true SC with a good nutrition program and he'll be up to 300 pounds b4 you know it.
What does he have left to play? I'm starting to want this guy even if we get Lambert, Mosely, and Barnett. He would be helped tremendously by enrolling early.
It seems likely that he was recently offered bc someone high on our list might not be headed our way... I'm not too concerned, if this guy was our back up, I'm OK with that. (Waits for LV to blow up for "passing" on others)
"My coach sent my film out and Tennessee was one of the schools I sent my film to and I really like Tennessee and they make me feel comfortable there," Ward said. "I think SEC would be good for me and it would make me better. The coaches have been talking to me about going there and they could make me better. We talk usually once or twice a week."
"Tennessee is really talking to me a lot and I think they really care about how I'm doing," Ward said. "I know this is a business and nothing is personal, but they know what I'm going through and they like my attitude to go to school, go to class and practice and all of that. They have my major and they're in the SEC. Tennessee is my top one right now."
"I talked to Tennessee about a visit and they're checking on dates for a visit. Washington is talking to me about a visit as well," Ward said.
Globe Tech coach Cameron Chadwick, a former defensive back at Rutgers, sees in Ward someone that not only has the physical tools to play in the SEC, but also the right mentality as well.
"On that level you have to have the mindset. There's a lot of kids that have the talent, but you have to have the mindset and the talent to make it on that level. He definitely has that and shows that every day," Chadwich said. "He's a student in the classroom and he's a mature young man and he's a great athlete. He has a low of raw talent, moves very well for someone at 285 pounds and he can run with the best of them. He has a lot of upside."
