'14 JUCO LB Chris Weatherd (UT Signee 2/5/14)

Coach Tommy Thigpen on Weatherd: "Chris is a natural pass rusher that brings a unique trait in rushing the passer. He hasn't stood up before but he will be utilized a lot on third down."

I get the passing downs thing but I just see curt playing mostly linebacker. Weatherd would be more likely to be down than curt IMO.

His interview on SA with Josh/Will was really good this PM. True VFL and really gets it. Very mature.

How about this for a "smurf" package?

Looks like sack city to me.

J Williams? Meh. Give me Henderson, a much more explosive freshman over Williams, a below average upperclassman who just hasn't impressed at all. Jmo.

I agree on Curt. Since they will be playing nickel as a base D a lot they need two LBs that can stop the run and get to the edge. They will have the opportunity to develop Chris the way they think he helps the most. if that is as a speed rusher, so be it.

Love this recruit, very talented, great kid. Very, very happy that it appears Doug Matthews was very wrong on Chris.

I'm trying not to get caught up in the shinny new toy mindset. There will be some veterans in there whether we like it or not.

I hear you, your position is grown up and reasonable. I just would hope that we've recruited over a kid who simply isn't a top flight SEC Caliber DE. I'm sure we're not starting 22 freshmen, but if we have younger, more talented kids I hope they see the field over older less talented ones.

Yes cool story bro but just met and talked with Chris at DFW airport he was flying back from Knoxville sitting behind my wife who was looking at houses this weekend. She knew just enough to know that I would love to meet him. Great kid seems very excited about being a Vol. Spoke highly of the coaches and Malone and Pearson who he spent the weekend with. I'll be pulling for him to do great things on Saturdays!

I think he will be a hybrid type player who will play some linebacker and then will play off the edge some as a pass rusher. I don't think dropping into coverage is his strength and that's not something they will ask him to do.

Weatherd is still one of out academic concerns. Not counting my eggs before they hatch with him.
