'14 JUCO LB Chris Weatherd (UT Signee 2/5/14)

Meh. I'm not sure these guys really take fans seriously. I'm more concerned he's talking about a coach.

It's the coaches job to make the team better.. If a guy doesn't do his job to be on that team, well, that's on him. Our coaches are kept plenty busy worrying about the kids that made themselves ready.

I have no clue what's going on with CW, I'm just saying if that's the case.

Good post AC...Did I just say that?:)

You're correct. It's his responsibility and his only to make himself a volunteer. He couldn't get the grades, so he'll probably have to find another path.

If this kid doesn't make it in to UT, that's extremely bad news for the Vol defense this fall, and for him personally.

Keep telling yourself that. Fans impact these kids a lot more than we admit to think. Some of these kids don't have a proper support system to rely on and choose the media, twitter, etc to get the attention they ultimately seek. I'm not trying to say Kameel Jackson is one of these guy, but in terms of wether or not prospects take fans (especially VolNation) seriously, I think this sums up the importance of how public forums, such as VolNation, impact a prospect;

Kameel Jackson @Kameeljackson4 · Jun 2
I printed out all Vol Nation doubters from my thread and put them up on my wall. Been up here for about a month.

Naw... Probably a different Volnation.

:dunno:

If he didn't get the grades, why did he show up in Knoxville? Is this a case of someone going to the extremes to try and save face?

There is a lot of action when watching soccer. It just isn't scoring.

Action = Scoring

This was always going to be a rough rebuilding year, regardless of Weatherd's status IMO.

Too bad for Weatherd though if he doesn't make it. Watching these players I cannot imagine being so close to a dream and not seeing it fulfilled. Gotta be tough. But life is long and there is more to it than football. Wish the best for Chris if he doesn't make it.

Sad on his part . Be mental strong and don't let the opinions of a message board upset you. They're are no experts or insiders on here. We are just fans.

I can not think of a time in recent memory when all starters on the OL and DL had to be replaced...

I hate to say it but since I said it in the Devonte Lambert thread, I will say it here as well... If you still can't meet the minimum criteria for eligibility after two years in JUCO (which are structured to help an athlete do just that) then maybe a 4 year college just isn't in the cards for you...we do need Weatherd but this team has made great strides academically in the short time Butch Jones has been here and that will only continue if we don't take a lot of high risks. The disconnect that began between our academic administration and our athletic dept. had a lot to do with the admission and academic performance of scholarship athletes such as Weatherd. He would not be cut any slack at all.

The difference is that the NCAA standards for JUCO players changed this year. Chris graduated from JUCO with all of the necessary classes in May. That would have given him the easy greenlight in any recruiting class in history, but for the 2014 class, his upper 2.4's GPA has kept him out. Cordarrelle Patterson would have never been recruited by UT under those standards. He would have had a 0% chance of qualifying.

Thanks. I didn't know that. I hope he gets in, our defense definitely needs some physically mature help.

Has anyone in the media or anyone from the university made a definitive statement on this kids eligibility? SIAP but I haven't seen anything but speculation in this thread.

No one has said anything definitive - just speculation, but from the recent "tweets" and lack of news on what we believed to be the final day for eligibility, it doesn't look good.
