'14 JUCO LB Chris Weatherd (UT Signee 2/5/14)

No one has said anything definitive - just speculation, but from the recent "tweets" and lack of news on what we believed to be the final day for eligibility, it doesn't look good.

Thanks. Just making sure I wasn't missing something bc this thread has about as much positivity as the final pages of Dooley's Mizzou loss.

Has anyone in the media or anyone from the university made a definitive statement on this kids eligibility? SIAP but I haven't seen anything but speculation in this thread.

It's August or bust for Weatherd. He is either going to be in class in August or he won't be on the team. I guess we will hear sometime before then.

Yea I guess the guy on Sunday who had one of his vertebrae cracked was totally faking.

2-3 players per game getting carried off the field on a stretcher after getting tripped or kicked in the shin, only to return to the game 5 minutes later >>>> 1 guy suffering a freak injury. 😁

There are plenty of injuries during club soccer too. I'm not defending diving but I'm just saying there is plenty of contact in soccer.

I think it's now or bust, because it's not like his grades will increase between now and then. I'm still pulling for him and hope he makes it.

It's not that complicated KB. They really are hurt, but the teams all have cans of magic health spray. It's amazing! It's made by the same people that make the 'fabric protector' that car dealers charge $1500 for...

To be fair, I've had to sit down and take a breather before after stubbing my toe really good

There are more dives in soccer than flops in the NBA. I'll take my football where the actual collisions aren't accidental.

Hope Weatherd gets to make some of those collisions this fall.

Don't disagree. They're really good athletes and there definitely is a lot of contact. Use of stretchers is a bit much though and lends to the "soft" reputation that soccer enjoys.

Kinda like the shark repellant Batman used to get that great white off his leg while dangling from that ladder from the helicopter? All damn fine products IMO.

The use of stretchers is partly to allow play to continue as the running game clock never stops. Also, a lot of the dives are designed to give players a break, especially in extreme heat, humidity, or altitude. Sell a good dive, and your team gets a minute or two rest. I was asked by coaches to fake an injury on a couple of occasions. Just a matter of gamesmanship. Same for clocking the ball in the corner during stoppage time.

Soccer is what it is.

You roll your eyes when there is flopping, laugh, and then enjoy the game for what it is. No one enjoys the flopping in soccer, but it's become a part of the game, like trying to ice the kicker in football by calling 2-3 timeouts in a row.

Except it doesn't happen in every game, all through out the game.

While I'm not a soccer fan I also try not to be a soccer hater. Each sport has it's own culture and nuances which certainly lends to it's brand of gamesmanship.....NBA players flop to draw a foul, every NFL WR complains about being being interfered with on EVERY SINGLE play and baseball has it's own set of "unwritten rules", etc, etc.

That being said, soccer needs to 86 the use of a stretcher unless it's 100% necessary (like in the case of Neymar) IMHO. 😁

Fair assessment. As I said, for the most part, the stretcher is used to transport an injured player off of the field quickly to be further evaluated as a means of speeding up the process rather than having a truly injured player hobble off from 75 yards. This is due to the continual clock and aids in managing stoppage time for the referees.

It seems foreign to most Americans because the use of a stretcher is considered dire in American sports, but a soccer field is much larger than a football field for example, and it is simply used as an aid for speeding up the process.

I think given the field size and the clock rules, the stretcher has its place, but I can understand the belief that is a little dramatic in comparison to its use in American sports.

What the? haven't read the whole thread, but from what I can tell Weatherd got injured playing soccer and taken off in a stretcher....now is there any more info on whether he got cleared to play?
