I want us to get away from recruiting JUCOs (Unless they are elite CP types) for this very reason. The majority of them never live up to the hype.

We had no choice with Blair. We were desperate for offensive linemen so the risk was worth it. His problem isn't talent it's conditioning. I wouldn't assume he's a bust just yet.

I get where you're coming from on this, but the success of CP along with what it looks like we will be getting from VP, CW and hopefully to an extent OW and I am fine with this staff continuing to identify and recruit potential impact jucos. Not to mention next year with AK.

I also like referring to them strictly by their initials FWIW LOL.

I get your point. Pearson looks to be legit, and Weatherd did very well for only being on campus for a short time so far

It's hit or miss, like Highschool recruiting

Lol, looks like we posted the same thing

Pearson and Weathered are looking good. If we can hit on 67% of all the recruits then we'll have a strong 3 deep! 67% of 85 scholarships means 57 good players. We sure haven't been getting that high of a percentage with our recent high school recruits.

I think class size has a lot to do with taking jucos as well. Last year with 32 guys they had a little more flexibility to maybe reach on someone like Blair for a position of need. In a smaller class it may be less likely they take someone unless he is a can't miss in their eyes like a CP or AK for example.

With our recent recruiting success Knoxvillian is probably right on in regards to the staff taking less jucos overall though. IMO it seems like the skill positions are slightly easier to identify impact guys and that's where I would guess we take the most at position wise moving forward.

Mo Couch had "Asthma" when we got here and had to work his way in playing shape.. Played a lot til he take a little cash on the side..

Blair is way too stiff, terrible feet. And this isn't coming from me. He's just not very good. Nothing against him

Yes...ideally, but recruiting a highly ranked prospect doesn't usually give you an indicator of their a)fitness level
b)response to a Lawson
type conditioning program
c)readiness and hunger to
play big boy football.
The fact that he was JUCO should have put him ahead of the curve...it didn't...since Butch and staff still obviously value his talent, redshirting is a better option than force feeding him conditioning...that option 's gone...hope he steps up...and quick. :aggressive:

We'll see if they value his skills and heart. If one of the other players takes the LT spot, I think there's a chance they Woody Quinn him (i.e. don't apply for a redshirt and let him ride out his senior year as a backup). If they believe he has the talent, aptitude, and desire to play the position, they'll try to redshirt him.

At this point, I'm guessing it's the former and not the latter. If Kendrick or Thomas take the spot, that'll be 2 smaller, less-regarded players who beat him out --- even though he was an EE and had all spring and summer to learn the system and get in shape. If it happen, that's the death knell.

If he's got any heart at all, he needs to man the hell up and take the position.

I agree. Im just saying theres a big difference in "hes not very good" vs "hes has some work to do to play at this level" he was highly ranked & recruited by a lot of teams & services. Seems more like a lack of heart vs talent

That's fine. That's your opinion man.

Harsh.. Its been one game

He isn't a freshman. He is a junior. He was recruited to be our starting LT and he got beat out by a walk-on and a freshman all fall camp. He isn't even good enough for RT. Notice he wasn't first to be called when Gilliam went down. He is 3rd string at best. The staff has zero faith in running him out there. Kendrick, Kerbyson and Thomas are all better options at LT than he is. And honestly, don't be surprised if he isn't even on the roster next year. He just doesn't have the tools. Bust.

Well...I'm not ready to go THAT far yet.

You're absolutely wrong. He busted his ass to get in shape all summer long and still got abused all fall camp. 23 of the of the 31(?) new comers from last year's class got PT vs Utah State. He didn't. Not even after the starter at his position went down. What does that tell you? And you won't see him get any PT this weekend unless something drastic happens. He just isn't good enough. Nothing against him, but it's the truth.

I really hope you're wrong, but I'm really afraid you're not.
