If you are condoning being a coward, then no, message boarding is not for me. I hold out hope that Blair will contribute, but to call him a bust after the first game is cowardice. He's doing something that I wish I was still young enough and agile enough to do. Some of the people that are so critical probably couldn't last a full practice, yet they call the young men that are giving their all for UT a bust.

Quite the sermon.

This one hurts because of how much we needed a tackle to pan out. And for goodness sake he wasn't a water boy project; we had to beat Auburn out for this one.

Unfortunately for UT, auburn really only evaluates for run blocking...OL, TE and WR positions :)

UT needs 2 LTs to step up. Then 2RTs to step up. Time to man up fellas, The Big Orange needs y'all now! :salute:

Blair is way too stiff, terrible feet. And this isn't coming from me. He's just not very good. Nothing against him

If true, I am confused. Seems like seeing too stiff and terrible feet would be easier to pick up with game film that the coaches should have access to. I thought they evaluated him in person at JUCO? The UT coaches have been so good at evaluating talent, how could they miss this badly on an LT?

I really want you to be totally wrong...no saying you are, just really want you to be wrong. :salute:

Good post to start my morning, doc. I agree.

Manning up (intended) is what Butch Ball is all about. Doing things right. This is football, not some complex theory that surpasses scientific understanding of the universe. Get out there and get physical and play assignment football. If you wear the orange you have a responsibility to your teammates to do the job and play like a Vol should. Get it done, Blair.

You're acting like a child. We are having a civilized conversation about Blair. A spade is a spade. He is 3rd string right now at this moment. It's not personal, it's fact. He was recruited to be our anchor and he can't beat out a walkon or a true freshman. He is a bust until proven otherwise. News flash, you don't bring JUCO's in to redshirt or ride the bench. There is a reason why he isn't playing.

when did the definition of civility change? the comments that I was reading was anything but civil. part of civility is having decorum about yourself and your responses. unfortunately this is all anonymous so people say what they want.

that walk-on you speak of busted his ass to earn his scholarship and to get the starting LT spot. this was that "walk-ons" second season in the system. its not like CBJ went and got a kid off of the street and just plugged him into the starting lineup.

That walk-on wasn't that good either, and he still beat out Blair, by a long shot. It's not slander if it's the truth. Gilliam started out of desperation, he wasn't SEC quality LT by any stretch, ever. We are screwed at tackle. But keep living in fantasy world. Hold onto the dream.

And you KNOW Gilliam wasn't any good...from part of one game? You're wasting your talents scooping Pralines N Cream for Baskin Robbins.

Now it is your position that Gilliam wasn't that good? You are very civil...

I've heard it's more mental than physical. More in the playbook than physical gameplay. Pump the breaks on calling him a bust, if things click he could be a monster.

I want us to get away from recruiting JUCOs (Unless they are elite CP types) for this very reason. The majority of them never live up to the hype.

More JUCOs "live up to the hype" than completely unproven 17 or 18 year old high school kids. The percentage of JUCOs who meet expectations is far, far higher than the percentage of high school recruits who pan out.

I agree, but watch Lane's first carry of the second half, Gilliam could've not even lined up and the DE couldn't have been in Lane's grill any quicker. I knew right then our LT situation was pretty bad. I was right behind the end zone watching and it was pitiful.

We stole a redshirt with Jackson last year and imo were going to try to do the same here.

Hyams I know, but Jimmy said he had been told that the staff thinks he can be a player but could really use a year to work on technique and conditioning. They want to try and redshirt him if they can but injuries might ruin that plan.

Yep.

If you watch Jalens first run of the game, it is crazy how well it was blocked except for Gilliam totally whiffing on the backer that made the tackle. It was a touchdown if not for one missed assignment.

I'm pretty sure it was Gilliam. Maybe Kerbyson

That sounds good, but he isn't learning some foreign language... I would say it's def more physical ability.. Oh well

If your not consistent this staff will not play you. It's pretty simple. Once he starts making more of those dominate plays than mental errors then he will play. Redshirt possibility went out the window with the Gillam injury.

Lets hope its soon but I have my doubts if he is having a tough time beating these guys out
