'14 MD LB Jerome Dews (UT Commit 6/24)

I see a little Kevin Burnett in the hudl video when he is coming off the edge. At lease when he was a freshman. Remember the sack and interception against Norte dame when he prob. Weighed a flat 200 lol but he had great football instincts. Welcome mr. Dews hope you work hard this year and silence all doubters.

Gray Shirt according to EA.

Committed on twitter but not to coaches according to EA just now.

Sounds about right. Hope the kid stays focused and can add some size. If he can come in with the 2015 class at 6'3-6-4" and 225-230lbs running in the 4.6-4.7 range he should be able to compete for playing time.

Speculating and commentating is fine. Some people are bashing the kid saying he isn't good enough for a scholarship when they really don't know anything about him. Looks like he showed out at camp and the coaches thought he was worth a scholarship. I suspect they are better judges of talent than anybody posting on this board.

You are completely missing the larger point.Posters know more than the coaches. As they are undefeated and most NFL teams just are not visiting enough video game stores and hooters for their next scouts...

Let's play connect the dots! Visited camp. Excelled a camp. Was offered shortly thereafter.

"For them to be an SEC school and take that chance on me with me having no other big offers shows they’re nothing but real people,” said Dews, who as of early Tuesday morning did not have a star rating from Rivals.com.

The only confusion at this point is whether or not the offer extended was with for a greyshirt. Media has been unable to confirm if it is a standard offer or a "greyshirt" offer. That's it.

Correct me if I missed something, but isn't the only source we have regarding him showing out in camp is his dad? No else has mentioned seeing him blow up in camp...

If he grayshirts 2014, redshirts 2015, orangeshirts to 2019, he could graduate with a law degree and a fine set of shirts...

Nothing wrong with a gray shirt IMO. Especially when the young man should probably be in the 2015 class anyway due to his age. It will give him the extra year he needs to bulk up for SEC play. I really want to see an article from Hubbs or P. Fort about what happened here. I hope the kid still comes to TN and balls out.

I can understand the moaning g in here if the coaches randomly offered someone just based on film or something, but if the kid camps right under his nose and he thinks he's got what it takes, Butch should be fired if he DIDN'T offer. It's not impossible for UT to be the first to find a great prospect. If this happened 20 times I might share concern, but sometimes you really are just the first to discover a good player.

Obligatory Eric Fisher reference.

I agree with what you are saying, but keep in mind that you are dealing with a somewhat "shell shocked" fan base that is used to Derek Dooley signing classes where half of the guys signed were reaches and/or "diamond in the ruffs". It takes time to get over 3 years of that. :)

Stop making sense before you upset someone.
