What if:

When the news broke of possible reach of a LB offer/commit in Dews, Tyrell Tomlin contacted the coaches and asked, "does that mean I don't have a spot any more"? Coaches thought on it and reconsidered taking Dews on scholarship. Tomlin was told he would have to commit very soon if he wanted the spot. He sets his announcement date for Friday.

Are we sure that everyone (including Dews) didn't just mean he got offered by Tennessee Tech, and it's all just a big misunderstanding?

Let's play connect the dots! Visited camp. Excelled a camp. Was offered shortly thereafter.

"For them to be an SEC school and take that chance on me with me having no other big offers shows they’re nothing but real people,” said Dews, who as of early Tuesday morning did not have a star rating from Rivals.com.

The only confusion at this point is whether or not the offer extended was with for a greyshirt. Media has been unable to confirm if it is a standard offer or a "greyshirt" offer. That's it.

That they know as little as we do? Listen I get that it could all be a misunderstanding, but I do not think the kid is intentionally misleading everyone. You are screwing around with future D1 offers by pulling a stunt like that.

It's happened before. Sometimes kids just want to feel special and take any little thing and make way more out of it than there really is i.e. Mclisse. Maybe the coaches just told him they would keep a close eye on him this fall or maybe they think he is better than guys like Truitt, Tomlin, Booth. All I'm saying is if there was a true cut and dry commitment from him it wouldn't take 2 hours to spread across Twitter, VQ, and 247, much less over 24 hours.

Looks to be a suspect source as well. I just can't see the kid actually being a commitment and it not being all over twitter, recruiting sites, our commitments welcoming him, and the coaches as well. Maybe the coach who spoke to the reporter was the guy posting in this thread earlier.

I can understand the moaning g in here if the coaches randomly offered someone just based on film or something, but if the kid camps right under his nose and he thinks he's got what it takes, Butch should be fired if he DIDN'T offer. It's not impossible for UT to be the first to find a great prospect. If this happened 20 times I might share concern, but sometimes you really are just the first to discover a good player.
