'14 MD LB Jerome Dews (UT Commit 6/24)

To all the haters, he has been updated to 3* on espn per twitter. I think the coaches can pick out talent better than recruiting services and better than we can. I wonder where he will end up on the other sites?

Good for him!! I was very impressed with his defensive film. Has ability to help this team down the road, IMO.

I really want Dews to be a Vol. He wants to be a Vol, has potential, and fits in with the recruits. He also recruits for UT. That being said he needs to greyshirt or at the very least redshirt if we have a spot for him.

I would say clearly I'm implying a kid with an offer but then again....I would hope that was a given considering I'm making comments in the recruiting forum.

In my opinion we should welcome any kid who is ready to give his all for Tennessee. Same goes for mcclisse( spelling?

How can you say you were clearly implying a kid with an offer when you mention Miclisse?

I trust Butch. After all, it is his career. He will do what he feels is best to help win games. I have no problem with Dews in 2014 or 2015. IMO 2015 makes more sense in the development of Dews because it gives him more time to mature.

Dews is easily the most puzzling recruit this year. He should be a REALLY good litmus test for our coaches ability to sniff out talent.

It's easy to evaluate a consensus 4*. If this kid turns out to be a solid 3* or 4* -- or makes big contributions down the road -- we'll all look back and know our coaches rocked it. Can't wait to see how it turns out...

So has Dews already agreed to it? It's a done deal? He does not plan on considering other offers if they come?

Not a done deal yet. Just with numbers, he will be offered that.

And I have no idea. To be honest, I'm not sure where he fits into the equation later on down the road.

He has stated that he will take a GS if need be. He knew thay CBJ was taking a flyer on him and the offer is a contingency offer based off room and numbers. The numbers are tight and Dews sees that. You will see this kid take the GS. He really wants to be a Vol. The kid has great potential.

Sounds good to me. A GS and then a RS should put this kid around 225-235lbs and he should be ready to compete. So he would be the 2nd LB we have for the 2015 class.

This seems to be what Dooley didn't do. He didn't have contingency plans or he let go of them too soon a la Imani Cross. We were short on numbers and we haven't signed a true full class in a few years. I think we are back on track to having a truly (at least) competent coach.

QUOTABLE: "I like everything about Tennessee the coaches, the families, the recruits and commits, the campus. Everything just fits me. What really excited me was that coach Jones is like a very outgoing person. He loves interacting with us and the families. It has really made me feel at home."

Someone needs to have a talk with this kid about his "social media manners." His twitter feed has a ton of very inappropriate things for someone that is possibly close to representing UT.

A good rule to live by, never put anything on social media you wouldn't want your mother to read or put on the front page of a newspaper.

I think a greyshirt is a full ride. It's just delayed one semester. Any input from others would be appreciated to confirm or nuke my reply. Thanks.

It is a full ride waiting in the wings. It is looking more clear that he will be taking a GS based off numbers and who we are setting good with at this point

Without having read this feed: People reading high school kids' messages on social media outlets should keep in mind that they are just kids. I'm glad I didn't have a nearly omnipresent voice like that during the rowdier days of my youth.

I agree, though. Never put anything on the internet you're not comfortable sharing with the entire world. When you write, people have little choice but to judge you by those words.

It's just tough concept for most young people to grasp. Although it becomes easier when you gain perspective, that tool often comes with age.

A GS is not bad for a guy that needs to develop a little....If he is a VFL, I think he jumps on it! If not, that's just good business for CBJ!
