'14 MD LB Jerome Dews (UT Commit 6/24)

Looks small... no way he plays a down at UT as a LB. Looks like a WR.

If the info I read is correct, Dews played WR and LB in HS. That is why he seems small right now.

Give the S&C staff time with him, he will fit in nicely. Time will tell at what position. One role I hope to see him fill on special teams is blocking punts.

Fathers may think they know what's going on because of that overrated EYESIGHT thing. I get paid to tell you what's real. Dews isn't on my list of visitors, ergo he's not in Knoxville.

Did not know you were his recruiter, maybe he dosent play a down at all, last I looked his education is free, he may care if he never plays a down his mother and I dont, maybe he contributes in practice and makes your starters better, more power to you, there is always a bigger picture, so, he could be the guy that makes another kid better, UT #1 fan!

Being a parent of a recruit or player can can be a good and bad thing sometimes. As a parent we want want the best for our kids and we will try to protect them to the best of our ability but fans don't see that side of it. As long as your your son gets his education paid for and he positive experience while at school that is is all that matters to parents. Fans just want to win and don't see the players the same way. You will have to shut out or overlook fan's comments sometimes. With that said the coaches have recruit players for the coir system so if they your son a scholarship they think he has potential.

That's a very healthy outlook for his education, but I believe Coach Jones also has an idea of him being on the field in games.

I really enjoy your posts. I am so happy your son will don the orange, white, and smokey grey! Only advice is to just tell him to stay away from the giblets.

I understand your frustration...this wasn't about attention Papa...inside joke targeting our buddy Hubbs...one of our posters had a hilarious run of fake reports and stopped because it was annoying some on here....if you read it you might notice it was mocking Hubbs insistence that your son wasn't visiting this weekend. :hi:

I'm very excited that your son chose to play ball at UT, MDO! Some on here are a little fast to say what will happen with players. At over 200lbs and 6'4" and only 17, the sky is the limit. Add some of that famous UT peanut butter and the college strength and conditioning program. Give Dews a year or 2 and watch out! The sky is the limit with his athletic ability and hard work!

People need to remember Maggitt was of a very slight build coming out of high school as well.

Easy to put on weight than gain speed.

MDO, can you elaborate any at all about your comment of CBJ putting together some freakish ....? Are you talking about this recruiting class and signing day coming up, and possibly some "planned" surprises?

Agree 100%. He will add weight as he gets older even wo a s n c program

He only needs to gain 20 lbs and is 17. That is not hard at all. He does that and you have a lb w tremendous speed n athleticism

The young man is 6'4, 210 and just turned 17. To show how young he is, over here in NC, if he were a sophomore, he would be eligible for two more years of high school. I graduated at the same age and its a huge difference. He will add 15-20 pounds over the next two years whether he wants to or not. At TN under a great S&C program and dietary program, he will add 30 pounds of good weight easily. The kid has a great frame, is long and rangy, athletic and has great explosion in his first step which is not teachable. I thought he would be an OLB. But after seeing how big his hips and thighs are, I think this kid is going to be a 6'4-6'5 and 240-250 pound monster coming off the edge at DE after a redshirt season.

Proud to have your son as a Vol! Cant wait to see his and this classes progression in the coming years. They all appear to be really good kids.

I hope Jerome inherits some of your attitude MDO, if so he'll work his tail off and definitely play. I could see a JRM type of trajectory. Shows out on special teams early and makes a case for more playing time.
