And all of those articles were written by the reporter who has been fired by sports illustrated and the New York Times, and was one of the main reporters to drag the duke lacrosse players through the mud because it mad a good story. Not to mention that those players had been kicked off the team for being part of an armed robbery.

No program is completely clean, but auburns current recruiting success has a lot more t do with their current success on the field than supposed paying of players

Have paid players and families since at least the pat dye era. Bowden would not do it. Talent dried up and he was fired. Then, they started paying again. Onevol74 is onetigerlover69. See what I did there.

It's clear, payed or not, the AU trump card in beating Bama and playing for the NC is Malzahn. He's 2-0 against Saban with and without Newton.

Ron Slay drove a Cadillac Escalade around campus. I knew his entire family, and they barley had money to make it by when Ron was in school. He had a little brother who was a special needs child, two other brothers, and a sister and his mom worked in a donut shop. You tell me how he afforded an Escalade in college? By the way, Slay was a very cool guy and his family is the best so whoever paid for it couldn't have gave the car to a better person .

I pretty much conceded that UT was not in a position of declaring sainthood, so I'm not sure why you directed this post toward me particularly. It doesn't change my opinion that Auburn is buying players out from under us. If I were an Auburn fan, I probably wouldn't care, but as I'm a Vol fan, I do.

If Haslam wants to sling some cash around, I'm not against it. I don't want to hear about it and I don't want to get caught, but I'm not against it.

And honestly, given the situation you describe, I would have asked for a cheaper car and more cash to help with the fam.

Over the last 4 years Auburn has or will be playing for 2 MNC's. At the same time Hamilton and Hart has led us to mediocrity. Now go figure where the top talent wants to play. It is really that simple.

We were that school in the late 1990s when Dickey was in charge.

And what school is Dickey at now? They seem to be doing well too.

Can Butch have a in home with Scott? Or have we already used all of them?

He has already OVed right?

Any chance we can get him to come back for an UOV.

Auburn's success began with Cam Newton. It took more than Newton to win that NC, but they don't win that NC without him. As I recall, plenty of evidence was put forth to show Daddy Newton was dirty, and at least trying(I believe he was successful) to sell his son's services. The NCAA decided not to pursue it all the way through, pretty much writing it off as an overzealous parent. According to the law of gravity that Newton apple doesn't fall too far from the tree.

So yeah, explaining Auburn's current run of success is pretty simple. It comes from the booster or boosters that put into the Cam Newton fund. Once you start winning, you don't have to pay as much.

As for UT, I remember reports of players, including Tee Martin, either getting paid or illegal benefits. Several OL supposedly drove really nice cars. Is there truth there? Could be. Doesn't change that I think Auburn is buying players now.

Evidently, Daddy Newton readily admitted he took the $180k for "his church", but young Cam had no earthly idea that any of it happened.......

That whole situation is the biggest joke that will ever be seen! Auburn should have gotten punishments similar to USC's sanctions or worse. And for the record, I was told the Newtons were paid $225k for his services. The person also added that it was a cheap price to pay, since it led to a NC.

Charles Barkley called it a "d*** good investment," after he admits to Auburn paying Cam Newton. Given, it is Charles Barkley.

Barkley is one of only a very small handful of people in this country who literally say anything about anything or anybody and get absolutely no criticism or the "punishment" that virtually everybody else would. It's an interesting phenomenon.

I've often thought of this as well. He started off that way. Consistent as hell I'd say

He still gets criticized(not that he cares) but most found punishment had no effect so they gave up. And love him or hate him, he's still one of the greats of basketball so Auburn and its fans aren't going to disown him.

As far as the statement about Cam, this is the first I've heard of him saying that. If true, I find it hilarious, but also accurate. Look at their football team right now. Cam was a damn good investment. Maybe CBJ can find a similar player our boosters are willing to invest in. At this point, my feelings have evolved to, "if everyone else is allowed to do it, then dammit, we might as well do it too".
