'14 SC DT Poona Ford

Wait so this guy goes from hero/insider, to a troll, then back to a hero/insider? I don't believe a thing that he says. I don't know why anyone would.

That being said, I doubt he's a Vol

I am probably naive, but to be fair, he posted news here right before Poona made the same public statements. You can go back in the thread and see.

I would say this is great news, and I am guessing that there are some guys that are shocked that they can't consider us anymore. This is the way to recruit because you get the leverage to force a hand. Sure, you may have to turn away good players, but you also get alot of good players. This staff definitely gets it.

Don't you think this is good news though Eric?

Yes but honestly I really like the way Poona plays and would take him over Williams personally.

If we land Barnett, Humphreys and Lambert at DT I think this is good news.

But if we land Barnett, Mosely and Willams at DT then I don't.

For one, because I'm not sure if Mosely will stay at DT. Then I also just like Ford's game more than Williams...he is so strong and gets in the pocket so fast.

Kid was going to commit on 7-17 of the foundation week. Offer was no longer commit-able. Makes you think about how many others will now need to look elsewhere. Butch is not fooling around. Lesson here is, if you want to be a Vol in next years class, you better be committed b4, or on #Foundation Weekend. Get 'em while they last!

We've had pretty in depth conversations and I am pretty sure he is legit.

I really wanted Poona...I am bummed.

I think he's legit too. And I'm also a little bummed Poona won't be a Vol. But that's the game. He'll do just fine at Louisville or wherever he ends up.

Damn...I just don't understand why the height thing all of a sudden became an issue.

Did they expect him to grow? Did other guys just pop up and pass him on their wanted list?

What do you think?

There's plenty of examples of short DT's being successful. Do you want a roster full of 5'-10" DT's? No. But I don't see a big deal having one or two.

I think they like Poona but probably like other guys, who are taller, just as much. We might not have any DT's committed at this point but we sure do have a nice list of very possible commits. And maybe they're only going to take 3 DT's. If they're only taking 3, some very talented guys we're in on won't be Vols. I feel bad for Poona but it's also a really good sign for what this class will look like on NSD.

I think the more they watched film of what they would be going up against game in and game out in the SEC they figured out they would need some bigger players to be successful on SEC level. SEC lines tend to be bigger and faster on both sides of the ball than what is typical.

This is because overall the best athletes tend to come and play presently in the SEC. Look at the most recent draft and how many SEC teams recruit in the top 15 and even top 10 and 5 in the country.

JMO- They are coaches who get it and willing to change if needed.

All of these posts are making me feel better about this one.

It will take some days to get over it though, lol.

I'd still take Ford over another CB, WR, or LB at this point.

4DTs
1DE
The Twins

That would be my final 7 spots and Dews takes a GS or moves on. If I could land 4 DTs, I'd do it.

I'm with you, take 4 DT's. But maybe they like Humphreys more? C. Williams, Barnett, Humphreys and Lambert would be excellent.

Agreed. What if Bryant doesnt make it in? Do we go after another LB or just not greydhirt Dews?

i get the feeling that we are going after another CB if we can get the right one. seems like we are going after Jackson and Lammons the most. Fenteng claims he is seeing interest from UT now too. and on TSR yesterday, Wharton said that he recently started contacting Tony Brown via text, who is a 6.0 4* CB

I would have to play that as MLB 1st, and if I could not land one that late I would consider best available. Offering Dews a ship late would depend on if he stayed around after knowing a GS was his only option. If there was not a player worth taking if Bryant did not qualify, I would then put Dews on scholarship. I think we would be able to fill that spot w/out much trouble though.

Didn't you quote an insider saying that 2 of the 3, between Ford, Mosley, and Williams, were Vols? If that's the case, looks like we know which 2...

So, Mosley, Williams, Barnett, Berry x2... That leaves just space for 1, correct? Lambert or Humphreys... or Elam...

I don't think that was me but could have been. Bottom line, we're going to have a really nice DL class. And it's not even August yet. Crazy how quickly things turned around with CBJ.

That could very well be the case. I just keep looking at the numbers and am concerned if we could get 4 top DTs to commit, we need to go ahead and do that. We are in on several good CBs, LBs and WRs for 2015. Several of them are TN kids and we stand a great shot at getting them. I'd feel alot better if we shored up the DL in this class and spread out the 5'10 180lb guys a little bit.

What about Mosley? I think he ends up a Vol with the way it's looking to play out.
