It's been a fun day in middle Tennessee! Butch worked the student population at BA like no other. I can't believe we are less than a week before signing day and are in this good shape! I was told today that Sawyers visit would actually be an unofficial visit so that a blue shirt could be used possibly. It may not be necessary but at least it could be an option. I defer to Paul and Brent to confirm or refute this. Pretty good source though.

On a lighter note, Thig did not cook crab legs tonight at the Barnett's house. Ms. Barnett insisted on cooking for Butch and Thig. Not sure what was on the menu. Butch, Thig and my friend were planning on meeting up for a beer after the meeting and I wasn't able to nudge my way in or I might have all kinds of fun stuff to talk about.

Anyway, as you can tell, it's pretty quiet. I saw a post that Rashaan said nothing to worry about with Derek. Schools have definitely been trying and he would love to go have some fun, but at the end of the day, he's a VFL and I really don't think he has waivered on that. Kind of weird to be less than a week away and it's pretty boring but let's keep it that way!!! We have a great class! GBO!!!

I think it's hilarious that people are questioning this kid's commitment.

People are severely underestimating the strength of Barnett's relationships with Gaulden and Malone.

Jones and Thigpen were at Brentwood Academy this morning to see Derek Barnett before they were to meet with him tonight night with his family.

Although there was still no final word from Barnett Thursday night, it seemed very unlikely that Barnett would visit anywhere this weekend. As we reported on Wednesday, he had already told several close to him that a Missouri visit was unlikely to happen.

Pinkel just isn't having any luck with getting Barnett to visit. Not only that, but he didn't have any with Hendrix once he got him to take a visit. He just struck out!

didnt larry say that if we have had any contact with a recruit phone or in person, they cannot blue shirt?! sawyers has been talked to on phone and will visit officially, he has been recruited. therefore a blueshirt is off the table.

Phone is ok if the recruit makes the call

Off campus visit ends a blue shirt possibly

No they can't

fter they have completed their jr. year I think they can. I was referring to the BB violation in which all the participants were between their junior and senior years Technically those guys would have been considered seniors I guess.

The Bp BBQ happened in the fall of the recruits junior year. That's still a no no

That isn't true.

Here are the qualifications for a nonrecruited student-athlete:

1. Provide student athlete with official visit; or
2. Having an aranged, in-person, off-campus encounter with the player, parents, or legal guardians; or
3. Initiating or arranging telephone contact with the player, parents, or legal guardians for the purpose of recruitment; or
4. Issuing a National Letter of Intent to the player.

Those are slightly paraphrased because I cannot C/P from the PDF document, but it isn't very ambiguous.

FWIW, Hubbs pointed out that Sawyers initiated contact with Thig on Monday, so that wouldn't have been a constituted recruitment. Going by the school via the "bump" wouldn't have constituted recruitment either.

Hard to believe our staff never tried contacting him over the past year but I guess they did not.

Okay, we're going to start this with a look at the defensive end position. A lot of people want to know what's going on there. Here are the list of guys who at one point were under consideration, but now are not:

Dewayne Hendrix--confirmed commitment to Tennessee
Derek Barnett--confirmed commitment to Tennessee

- Mizzou Rivals.

To add on to what Ron posted, I found this UM's recruiting update for today.

Looks like the Tigers are waiving the white towel on Hendrix & Barnett.

I can imagine CBJ talking with the NCAA about Sawyers recruitment.

Butch: :"No, we were not at Ensworth to visit/recruit Michael Sawyers". "We were there to visit/recruit that 5'3" QB they have who throws underhanded".

Obviously we got this.

sawyers has been on campus, yes. per hooker he didnt gel with our recruits.

saying theres been no pre-arranged meetings between butch and sawyers is a bit of a stretch man! seriously, no dt in state if tennessee goes without notice, especially as badly as we need them. once he started receiving offers it put a target on his back dor butch and co.

Butch has a plan. I don't have a clue what it could be or if it is a good plan or not. But, he does have one. I'll just sit back and enjoy the ride.

and they said Malone and Hurd were arch rivals. But they seem to be big buddies around campus.
