And I thought Barton was a butthurt homer. That guy needs help. He goes from there's something there, to where there's smoke there's fire, to legit interest, to we didn't want him but he wanted us. Yeah I'm sure Derek is crying because the almighty coach Mason won't call him back. Please, Mason would bend over backwards just to talk to Derek for 30 seconds.

His exact quote is "In the end I do not think anything happens here. Not because Barnett may not be interested, but because the Dores have reasons for not wanting to bring Barnett into the class."

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

That right there was by far the most ridiculously funny shiz I have ever read on VN! :lolabove:

Why do Vandy fans think an undergrad degree from VU is an automatic ticket to success for a lifetime, while a degree from ANY other school might as well be used as toilet paper?

Their inflated view of their institution is worse than their inflated view of their football program.

Because none of them actually attended Vanderbilt, so their viewpoint is misconstrued.

This. The majority of nashville are Vol fans anyways, if I'm not mistaken there was a statistic on this. Most of these Vandy fans are new to the game anyways, they're more than likely hipsters or you're run of the mill sports fan who happened to be living in Nashville at the time of brief decent run Vandy has had lately.

True. Or they just don't like UT and want to be trendy and go against the grain so to speak. So they wear the hat, but don't go to games.

Agreed with the pro teams. Even though I'm a Raiders fan, I love driving the 2 1/2 hours to catch a Titans game. Great atmosphere. And I wasn't even a hockey fan when I moved to Knoxville in 2005. I started going to some Ice Bears games and learned the rules and love it. And the Predatos put on a show. Nashville is legit. Great town. Great atmosphere. Doesn't hurt that I like country music as well.

It really is a good city. Big enough to feel like it's a city, but not so huge that it becomes overwhelming. I didn't appreciate it really until I visited/drove through other ones.

I am not going to knock their academic program. It is good but by far not the best in the South. I have a number of relatives who graduated from Vanderbilt and my father attended premed school there. All did very well after college. I also have a number of relatives who attended Tennessee and they also did very well after college. However, their football has not been relevant since the 1940s and maybe the early 1950s. That is 50-60 years of playing mid-major football. The little spurt they had in football the last couple of years will not last, but their academics will continue to be their calling card. I have my degree from Tennessee and I am proud of it.

It makes sense for scholarship players, but the idea of paying $60,000 per year for an undergraduate education is ludicrous.

Colleges in general are going to be in big trouble in the next decade, and it's going to start with prohibitively expensive schools like Vandy.

I don't think it's been mentioned that HUDL has Barnett's shuttle time listed at 4.24.

That's ridiculous for a big guy like Barnett.

They are claiming grades/attitude are why they wouldn't want him. lol

The attitude part: Prolly cause he drilled an Ensworth kid on the final play of their playoff game a couple of months ago, when they game was already decided and the kid was going out of bounds. Key word, Ensworth. Not much love for UT at the E.

He's super athletic, and he will eventually be playing DT for us. Very exciting...even if he loses a little bit of that quickness when he adds weight.

We could use a little killer instinct like that on D.

You're not looking at it correctly SigNu. If the "dores" got Barnett it would mess up their 2* class and give their present commits an inferiority complex. That is very good reasoning.

How Barnett did at various combines last year:

* March '13 (Atlanta): 6-2.5, 263...4.89 40, 4.56 SH, 35.5' PB, 28.6" VJ, 86.76 SPARQ

* April '13 (Memphis): 6-2.5, 269... 5.07 40, 4.53 SH, 38.5' PB, 28.3" VJ, 89.91 SPARQ

* July '13 (Beaverton, OR): 6-2.5, 274...4.96 40, 4.24 SH 40.0' PB 29.3' VJ, 109.92 SPARQ

Given his size, here's how extraordinary Barnett's 4.24 shuttle time is: out of 14,000 participants at Nike SPARQ Combines last year, no other player weighing over 250 lbs. recorded a better time, and only two players over 240 had better times.
