Missed this.

I graduated in '08 and did some non-profit work that I was really into at the time before going back. I didn't really network well in undergrad and have tried to fix that in law school. Hopefully it pays off.

Good luck tomorrow.

Same to you man.

Not to get off-topic about educational standards or celebrity breeding, but back in the early days of 2013 I thought he would grow into a pretty nice DT for somebody. Now I’m wondering if the philosophical switch to bigger linemen means he’s now back to that strong-side DE? In light of going after gigantic DT Elam and DT Mosley.

Just read this, and theoretically yes. We should be going bigger, but not necessarily huge. We need space eaters/run stuffers at DT and any pass rush could be a bonus. At SDE we need a guy to hold the edge really well. That could be anyone from a guy like Hendrix who's 6'5" 255+ lbs (who will likely get heavier), or we could use a guy like Barnett who is shorter and bigger. It all depends on skillset really. I would personally think Hendrix is better at SDE and Barnett would be an Under Tackle, but its no definite.

Dooley curse... Our fans now think Vandy is the team to overcome. Butch isn't landing kids to beat Vandy. Beating Vandy is not the goal for crying out loud.

It is at the moment. To be successful you have to maintain the normalities(beating vandy/kentucky) of your goal but begin preperation of the bigger goal(sec championship). Don't ever turn your back on a neighbor, they will sneak up and get you. ala....last year!

I don't believe there was a shift in philophosy at all. What Strippling told Elam was just coach speak. Some people might find that kind of conniving, but you have to do stuff like that in the game of recruiting. Much like Gardner did to Lawson last year with AU.

In our 4-3, in most sets we utilize and under DT ( Lighter, rush DT) and a NT. We have always wanted a kinda bigger guy, but they aren't the D-lines focus.

agree 100% - this "philosophy switch" has much more to do with us missing on someone else and so switching our focus to Elam

we then need a way to explain why we just came in to the picture - this seems like a good angle to take

Well of course you agree with me SCvol, great minds think alike :)

Based on his size. An if he's athletic enough to play Dline, then he is def athletic enough to be a RT.

Curious to hear what makes this so. Why does a guy who would be playing the 1 technique to eat up space and be a run stuffer be automatically athletically enough to deal with speed end rushers, blitz packages, etc. when he has never played the position? I haven't even heard a reputable coach suggest he would be used at tackle.

Any event, this is the Derek Barnett thread. Hope we can land Barnett soon, so the coaches can target the final spots available in the 2014 class.

1. Dlinemen is almost always 10 times more athletic than offensive linemen.

2. Idk why you think his Hs position is that important. Most of these kids have to be retaught everything anyway.

1. Maybe defensive ends, I don't look at guys like Sam Adams, Ted Washington, Terrence Cody, etc. and think, "These guys are way more athletic than offensive linemen". The 1 technique is rarely viewed as an 'athletic' position.

2. In that case why not put Cortez McDowell at QB or Jalen Hurd as a DE since they have to be retaught the game of football.

Just seems like a odd statement to make seeing as though no one is looking at Mosley as a tackle.

Cody actually was pretty athletic. He got up so high he blocked Lincoln's FG with his arm pits man.

I'm just kidding man
