Before all this academic talk blew up I posted that the "perceived" value of a vandy degree would be a hard battle to win.

Many here understand that perception isn't reality but certainly most would agree that the perceived notion of the masses says vandy is significantly better in academics.


Perception is generally all that matters in recruiting and IF academics decides this race then we are in trouble.

A college degree is what you make of it. A big part of the equation is the career network of grads from a school. Vandy grads don't give to cents for a Vandy football player in the job market and wouldn't give them 10 seconds in their mind.

Nothing new really but his coach said today that he is "110%" sure that he is a Vol and said to "expect a Christmas present soon." He also said that Derek was ready to commit but that his mom had slowed things down because she wanted him to be very sure. Vandy has been negatively recruiting big time with the APR and his mom started having reservations but CBJ and company put all that to rest last weekend and mom is good.

Hope he does. Would love to get the DT ball rolling. I think once 1 pulls the trigger, we could see several decide. Especially if we are only taking 2 DTs. I hope we take more than that and not hold a spot for another CB or anyhing other than DT.

I did indeed. When did you graduate from UT? I was May '10

Vanderbilt is clearly superior to UT in academics. Anyone can find anecdotal evidence otherwise. I'll grant that there are several programs at UT that are better than Vanderbilt's respective programs.

Vanderbilt's overall superiority in academics is not debatable.

Buying into the-ratings-are-bunk excuses or pointing out personal evidences make us look butthurt.

Yea right. I don't think anyone is saying UT is academically better than Vandy. But Vandy is not that far superior, and in no way is UT last in the SEC. Believe what you want, but the rankings arms race has gotten stupid, and institutions are focusing more on rankings than education.

All I am doing is trying to counter the idiocy of some of the comments in the forum. Vanderbilt is academically superior to UT. I am not saying that Vanderbilt offers better academic opportunities to student athletes; I don't care--I never attempted to address the point. Again, I am simply countering the blanket statement that UT is as good as Vanderbilt academically.

May not be as smart as you think because I don't recall seeing anyone make a blanket statement that UT is better than Vandy. UT is just not so far behind.
