Dale Jones. One of 13 children who weighed 180 lbs. in high school. He went to TMI before earning a scholarship at UT. Battled through the depth chart and injuries to become a legend. I see no problem with giving Underwood a chance.

TMI produced some solid athletes while it was open...I lived next to the school growing up, but it had already been converted to TMG.

Know a few folks from that area of town. Their kids think he has the heart and the talent. Wouldn't be the first time an overlooked local kid walked on, and turned into a Vol legend. I hated losing Mouhon, but if I have a choice between a 4 star out of state player who doesn't want to be here, or an underrated local kid who has performed well and wants to be here, I will take kids like Underwood all day long.

Being from Greenback, I remember TMI as well. Too bad a local investor didn't buy it, and turn it into a school that continued what it once did academically and in athletics.

Hey ROCKET SURGEON!

Offered preferred walk-on, not Scholarship.

No effect on NUMBERS.

p.s....... bless your heart

Hey brain scientist!

You missed his point entirely. He understands completely the difference between a walkon and a scholarship and the numbers.

Bless your heart.

Underwood has good size and speed for a MLB. He's the kind of recruit who can make some noise during his 4 years at UT. I would say his first impact will come on special teams.

Glad he's preferred. I guess being a non-preferred walk on is the lowest form of recruiting. It's pretty much saying, "we don't want you, but we won't kick you off the practice field either."

If you want to eat dirt all practice long, day in and day out, on your own dime then sign on up!

Years ago I tried out for baseball at an ACC school. It was pretty much the coach going through the motions though. The only guys with a serious chance of making the fall roster much less the spring were the "preferred" guys. I am sure they were looking for someone they didn't know to "blow them away"... but those guys rarely show up for a tryout.

Maybe it is different for football but if they have tryouts then I suspect they have a pretty good idea of who is making the team beforehand.
