'14 VA WR Jamil Kamara

Any chance you've considered that going from working with their first string QB who they've practiced with all year to their fourth string QB has anything to do with that regression?

Come on man think about it.

Watching croom run that awful route and Johnson break off his pattern instead of coming to a scrambling QB told me all I needed to see regarding those 2 Saturday night. Both INTs had awful WR play with the.

Maybe because DOBBS. The chemistry between WR and QB has to be on, timing is everything. Dobbs had that with North for a little minute, it seemed, but that went out the window when he was injured. I thought Johnson and Croom have played decently through this. Croom has improved a lot. Obviously I don't see him every play, but it looks like he's attacking the ball more, which is great. With his size and a competent QB he should be dominating SEC DBs.

I understand what you are saying on most of your points but Johnson looks absolutely horrible out there. The guy has terrible balance for a WR, runs awful routes, and comes out of his breaks incredibly bad. Croom has potential and he needs to learn how to utilize his body but Johnson is just plain bad.

Johnson is a horrible route runner and is maybe the most uncoordinated WR I've seen at Tennessee.

I thought this exact thing watching that hail mary at the end of the game. Croom looked like he was doing a dance move instead of getting position and going up for a jump ball. :ermm:

Maybe a little bit to that, but its painfully obvious the WR's are pretty bad overall. Clearly they lack talent as a unit, but I'm not sure they have one of the better WR coaches either. Granted, I've never been an Azzani fan from his CMU and UF days so maybe it seems like sour grapes on my part but they are very poor route runners as well and none of them have good fundamentals.

people, don't bust my chops over this.I am only passing this info along as I have a coworker that is a bammer(lifelong).he said from info from bama boards that the running back they signed last year(kamara)is not liking his situation & wants to transfer. it may not be relevant but i thought there was mention of this young man at wide receiver last year while we were recruiting the running back, think they are related(cousins).guess its a mute point as lil nicky would never grant a release within the conference.there are some here that will have a lot more insight into such things.

I love a good mute point.

Maybe what I should have said is Johnson has made some big catches for us this year, and he was a late pickup. Not much was expected from him, yet he has been described by Butch as one of our more consistent recievers. If he deserves that praise from our HC, then I think it's safe to say he's helped more than he's harmed. Not saying he's a success story just yet, but he's helped some.

He has a long way to go from that standpoint. Like I said he has the raw talent but he needs to be more aggressive when the ball is in the air and he really has to focus on learning how to use his body which should be a huge asset against just about every DB he faces.

ZA had shown next to nothing when it comes to developing his position group as a whole this year. Next year is put out or get out for him IMO

You can't blame it all on the coach man. All the coach can do is make you run drills and give you advice on how to do things with the limited amount of time the NCAA allows per year. It's up to the player if he wants to develop into a great player.

I would be interested in seeing how much time our WRs spend outside of practice on their own running routes, working with the QBs, and additional time in the weight room.

North and Pig have not shown improvement? Seriously? North is a true freshman who has never played WR full time and has come a LONG ways since he got here. Pig has improved exponentially since last season.

I said outside of north the group hasn't developed at an acceptable pace.

Pig has really digressed lately. He had shown a big jump but he is back to the unreliable WR he was before dropping balls and fading when needed most.

TBH I put that more on Dobbs than I do Pig.

I saw much more improvement in receivers route running and hands when Hinshaw moved over to take them after the Baggett/Duh'rick fiasco. Some of it was the players he had to work with. But some of it was development by him.

ZA gets another shot at it though. Tough year with all of the inexperience.

I agree ZA gets another shot but its put out or get out IMO

I think you mean "regressed".

I would also say croom is coming along good

According to VN it must be really easy being a D1 college coach. I wonder how come more people on here aren't one?

Marquez North was a QB in high school and has improved dramatically over the course of the season. Pig Howard looks to be a competent WR for the first time. J. Johnson has been better than expected. Other than that, we have nothing to work with other than FR WRs and a few kids that have no business playing WR in the SEC.

Agreed - no way North has this kind of year without a good WR coach at UT. That was a FAST transition from Highschool QB to SEC WR.

After North & Pig, you essentially have guys who are one of the three:

1) Too Slow
2) Can't Catch
3) All of the Above

Y'all are idiots if you blaming CZA. His entire group is brand new to playing. He has no upperclassmen to show as examples of what good is. North was as raw as can as a WR and look what CZA has gotten out of him.

Hinshaw comment is borderline hilarious. Justin hunter was glue until Hinshaw got a hold of him and ever since has ha case of the dropsies. He is just now getting better. Please don't use CP as an example. CP just now learned how to run a route. We just gave him the ball and let him run. Baggett was the freaking master and Dooley like an idiot picked the wrong side of the argument and lost both guys in process

Some real idiots on here that think they know so much about football. It's about what I expected from the WRs. Next yr should be a smoother yr for that group.
