'15 CA QB Sheriron Jones (UT Signee 2/4/15)

I agree. Especially (3) HS QBs. Now if they decided last minute there was a spot that opened up because of a de-commit late and it was a best available thing and a Juco QB was available who could add depth behind Dobbs/Peterman next year maybe I buy it. Try and take a 3rd HS QB and IMO your chances of losing one already committed is about 90%.

JUCO QB..... are you kidding me ?

Very slim chance IMO, but I'd look that route before trying to take 3 HS QBs in the same class. At least a Juco helps space things out a bit. If the OL does not improve it won't really matter whose back there taking the snaps.

This makes sense to me. If they have evaluated this kid and feel like he is better than the two QB's we currently have committed, and feel like we have a legitimate chance to land him. Our '16 commit (Kendall) looks like a more complete, college ready QB than Jennings or QD. Jennings is a ridiculous athlete, but needs a lot of work as a passer. QD has tremendous arm talent but questionable decision making on the field. Butch has seen how impatient our fan base is. If you think this kid give you a better chance to win championships in the future then you try to land him. Starting next season winning is all that matters.

Not sure Dormady is a bad decision maker at all. When you have no offensive line and constantly being on the run because of that Oline and they throw 40+ times a game then he is gonna have some int's. Not to mention when his team won 2 games the yr prior when he was hurt he was by far the best player on his team and had to take chances at times because he had very little help. He will be a very good QB for us.

While I am not the recruiting guru some here are , I just think this is a risky move. Two birds in the hand are better than one in the bush. Why risk losing guys that are and have been committed to your program for one that is not a complete upgrade. Maybe he is and I just am not seeing it. I like QD and JJ and believe they are going to be very good for us. Please help me out.

Dead on it's risky...neither of our commits have shown any sign of wavering and I don't remember us even finishing SECOND to Florida...maybe he's worth it? Recruiting is fun. :ermm:

Trent Hosick

If CBJ wants to add a QB who could possibly step in and help right away, I've made it easy for him. Don't go the 3rd HS QB in the class path. This kid IMO could challenge for at least #2 right away. Let both the HS guys RS and develop a bit.

2:10 of his highlight tape is something you don't see everyday. A QB knocking a guy unconscious.

I thought we took like 4 in C. Clausens class..maybe it was another.

In Clausen's class we also took Rattay. Only 2 QBs in that class. In the past 20 years I'm pretty sure we have not signed more than 2 in any single class. There may have been a year that we signed 2 and also picked up a transfer or walk-on purely for depth purposes (i.e. practice squad player with little/no chance of ever playing meaningful minutes).

While i'd normally agree with only taking 2 qbs, we need bodies. Maybe someone transfers later or swaps positions, but we can worry about that later. Our line gets people hurt. Until i see otherwise, depth is necessity.

Need 4...
QD starts the 1st Q....giving us 3 quarters to overcome possible ints
2Q Jones...closes out the half
3Q JJ...setting up for the closer
4Q-OT Dobbs...because the kid closes and plays hard in the 4Q. Best 4Q QB ive seen in awhile.

Blue font BTW

No. Start Dormady and redshirt Dobbs again to give him time to learn to throw accurate passes in this offense. (Que our OL sux)

He didn't play well ethe 4th qtr against Mizzou or Vandy.

My earlier post was purely speculation because no '15 QB's have been actively pursued after ending the TG saga. Now it has become known that they are courting Jones. Historically QB's from out west have done very well at UT statistically. Casey Clausen, Erik Ainge, Tyler Bray, hell, even Rick Clausen led us to one of the greatest comebacks in UT history against LSU. I don't think they would be wasting their time on this kid unless they think he is better than the two we have set to EE and feel really good about being able to land him. Once again, pure speculation on my part, but the only thing that makes sense.

Reading some of the analysis in here leads me to think this kid is advanced in his accuracy and ball placement. That is something we are sorely missing from our QBs. Not sure how he would compare to QD or JJ in this regard but if he is well ahead in this skill (& all else relatively equal) I would welcome his commitment.
