The fact that he was strong enough to do that job and the tape proved it is probably what got him drafted to play a position that he had never played

Because he had ability to do both and they needed a guard? Doesn't mean he was bad at DT. You all just expect every DT to be Ndamukong Suh or Aaron Donald. Would help if he had a coaching staff to develop him. See Marquez North, Guarantano, etc.
