'15 DE GA Andrew Butcher (UT Commit 6/8/13)

Hendrix will remain on campus and finish his academic work for this year. He is no longer a member of the football team, will not practice with the team, go to meetings, use the workout facilities, etc. If he decides to stay in school he wont be eligible to practice with the team until the summer.

Missing a critical part of his development because he doesn't know how to take tough love

Smith may be the most underrated Dlineman of all time. Amazing how good he is and little love he gets

Agree! This is exactly why I want this kid at UT so badly! Smith has been one of my favorite players since he was drafted by the bengals. Smith was drafted out of Mizzou as a 260 lbs. DE. By his junior season, butcher will likely be a lean, mean 255-265. Great motor! As I've said before, his game reminds me a lot of David Pollack at UGA.
Andrew seems to have been very true to his UT commitment throughout the process and I believe we keep him. However, I would bet UGA pulls out all the stops btwn now and NSD. Maybe they even get Pollack involved in his recruitment.

Isn't Butcher an EE? Or am I wrong?

defensive line coach steve stripling on four-star defensive end andrew butcher: "andrew comes from a very successful program and has an excellent knowledge of the technique used in college. He has a great football mentality and motor. Andrew is very physical and self-motivated. We welcome him to our football family."

Butcher talked to the media:

BUTCHER:I wanted to come here because of the family environment and how they talked about life and not just football

BUTCHER: I think our DLine class can be one of the best of all-time if we keep our heads on straight.

BUTCHER: The future is very bright in Knoxville right now.

BUTCHER: I am intense and physical.

BUTCHER: it's cool that I am back as a teammate with Josh Dobbs again. He's a great leader, he's helping me get used to everything.

Having surgery. Anyone know why?

From Rucker
Freshman defensive end Andrew Butcher, one of the 10 early enrollees from the Vols’ 2015 recruiting class, is set to undergo arthroscopic surgery Wednesday to address knee issues. Butcher first experienced problems with his knee during the spring, and they’ve gotten worse the past several weeks, but the hope is that his knee can be cleaned up through arthroscopic surgery and he that he’ll be able to return the field in time for his freshman season. For now, the nature and timing of the knee issues are at least a bit of a concern for Butcher heading into his first summer at Tennessee. …
