'15 FL OL Tyree St. Louis

Mahoney coached Fisher for all of one year. Doubt that tutelage is what pushed him over the edge from a 2* undersized OT to an overall #1 draft pick

He did coach Joe Staley into a first rounder though. Also Eric Leifelt is going to be a high round tackle.

He didn't coach Staley at all. Staley was drafted in 2007, Mahoney didn't coach at CMU until the 2007 season.

And he coached Lefeld for 2 yrs, that's about the only one he can hang his hat on.

"On Wednesday, Mahoney is scheduled in Florida to see Tyree St. Louis. Earlier this week St. Louis told Volquest he will take all five official visits beginning with Syracuse this weekend, Ohio State next weekend, followed by Tennessee, Miami and Mississippi State in January. From speaking with St. Louis we get the feeling he's using the chance to take a second look around after not doing too much visiting this summer.

It's worth remembering Tennessee was his first offer and the Vols were at one point his leader."

A 6'6" natural OT...

FWIW 247 has his pass blocking rated as a 3/10, his lowest attribute of all attributes listed. Hopefully its a rating they pull out of their a $$.

I just still find it odd that we are recruiting very well yet no really good OT's want to join when they could have early playing time on a rapidly improving team

I wonder if Richmond really was a silent commit, and was going to be the final piece to this OL class. However, the pressure from where he lives was too much, and he change his mind when he gave his verbal commitment. Maybe the coaches already thought they had him in the bag and shut down recruiting. When he committed to Ole Miss, they had to pick back up recruiting the OL. Doesn't make sense to me either, Catbone.

Cough...Cough... Mahoney...Im not trying to beat a dead horse here, but how many reports/interviews have surfaced from people/players praising Mahoney for his coaching, etc? When Butch came here, by April, I was hearing interviews from d-line players talking about how good Coach Strip was. Walls even went as far as stating that he had learned more about football technique/etc. in four months under Coach Strip than he had learned all years prior.

We now know Walls wasn't bluffing. We didn't play one DT over 300 pounds regularly this year, and we still had a very productive defense. Maggit/Barnett have been monsters under Strip.

Mahoney, up until this point, hasn't "wowed" anyone. Players notice these things. They see how bad our o-line is, and how we continue to make the same mistakes game after game. Had Dobbs not played any this year, we'd be sitting at 5-7 with 50+ sacks given up. Our o-line problems were masked by Dobbs ability to run.

At the end of the day, Mahoney's coaching and recruiting is very questionable. His starting 5 was questionable from the get go, and his reluctance to change it was also questionable. I'm sick of hearing the excuses. I know Dooley scre@ed us. I also know that in 2.5 years Mahoney has recruited 2 true OT prospects. That's not acceptable in the SEC.

Couldn't agree more. I think Mahoney is the weak link on this coaching staff in both coaching and recruiting.

I know Butch is loyal to his guys but it just seems we stand to upgrade at oline.

Even if that were true, we aren't in the position, due to Dooley, of only taking 1 true LT prospect this cycle. Jones/Hall/Stewart are all guards in most systems. None of those guys are true LT prospects. Stewart/Jones/Hall should be able to take care of the RT spot in the furture, but where's the LT prospects? Even with Richmond, we'd only have 3 guys who could play LT. You should have at least 4 long, strong LT prospects at all times. We currently have two.

Also, for people saying Hall is our future LT, Hall is 6'4". He'd need to to have either a 80"+ wingspan or be stronger than an Ox/faster than Road Runner to play LT effectively. Peters is the only LT that's elite in football that's 6'4", and he moves very well for a guy that's 320+ pounds. I'm not saying Hall can't be a LT, but the odds are stacked heavily against him.

Well, I just hope Butch would swallow his pride and fire him if he knows he is underperforming aftet next year.

I get the whole staff chemistry thing, but IMO CBJ would do well to find a new OL coach now. Especially if he could find a young energetic guy who used to play OL and could recruit well. IMO when you know you have a problem you have to fix it. Waiting a year in college football can cost you a lot more than a year. JMO

No idea what Hall's wingspan actually is, but everytime I see a picture of him, his arm-length stands out to me. So it might be an option. Or since he is only 17, he might still grow into the position.

Since no recruiting site seems to show wingspan, maybe we should look at bench press. Most seem to think if a 300# guy has a very weak bench, it's because his arms are too long.

Weak bench=possible UT LT. :)

The fact that we are not getting elite talent on the oline, that want to come in and contribute early, is a clear indication that Mahoney needs to be replaced.

It's recruiting.. attrition happens.
