'15 FL QB/WR/DB (anything he wants) Torrance Gibson PART II

TG was on a visit to UT when CBJ decided to take a commitment from Quinten Dormady. Another GREAT decision by Butch Jones. As of that day, Gibson's chances to be a Vol ended. It is what it is.

Leb,
I agree with you in most cases, but it is still premature to conclude that passing on TG was a "GREAT" decision. Tennessee hasn't exactly been lighting up the world in terms of QB recruiting over the last several years. On paper, players like Dobbs, Peterson, Worley, Ferguson, etc. look like great prospects... But how has their development gone? With the exception of JW (THIS year), not too well IMO. We are, and have been, missing that game changing, dynamic presence at the QB position ever since Casey Clauson graduated. Taking TG would have given TN that opportunity.

in think it's pretty funny that an internet poster like Leb thinks he not only knows what happened, which he is wrong about, but also thinks he knows how to handle recruiting better than Butch, who will more than likely have 3 straight top 10 classes.

Just another message board subject matter expert.

This will be the last time posting on this thread, but here's my 2 cents. Regardless of if we passed on him or if he just chose someone else, I'm not going to meltdown if he doesn't come here. We have 2 great QBs committed now, and what we really need is OTs and a CB.

Dog fart thread . Soon.

That's a good one... My dog will fart in your general direction!

For me it's a great decision to avoid all the "issues" that have ben attached to TG. Grades, character, handler, on the field questions, all sorts of things. I felt very early that UT would pass on the kid. It looks like CBJ did just that. Me being right or wrong does not really matter as CBJ made the ultimate decision. Most reports today are saying the kid may not even qualify. I'm sure a lot of things went into CBJ and company taking Dormady over Gibson. UT wanted Quinten and I'll roll with that.

Do you understand why Butch Jones continues to recruit pocket passers to run a read option offense? Just curious.

Why does Butch continue to run a zone read offense while recruiting top WRs and RBs with skill sets best suited for a non-zone read or option offense?

It's not a bad play. We don't base our scheme on that.

Because he is going to hire Kitten away from Saban and back to UT to reinstall his previous offense?

Blue Font.

Maybe CBJ plans to make a change offense wise. He's claimed from day 1 that he could adjust the offense to fit the QB's abilities. People continue to complain why Worley does not keep it more. It's pretty clear that he's told not to keep it. I would like to see them just do away with all the fakes when everyone knows JW is not going to keep it but maybe 2-3 times a game IF that.

Honestly I think he continues to go after pocket passing QBs because his top notch skill guys need that and it makes the most sense. IF UT were to ever not have NFL caliber WRs all over the place, I'd bet we would see a much more mobile QB taking snaps for UT. Dobbs, Peterman, are a bit more athletic than Worley is. It's been said Dormady runs well enough to make the defense at least respect him keeping it. JJ will be the real dual threat guy if he can turn the corner to being an SEC caliber QB.

But you have been wrong so much and yet you still stick with your erroneous theories.

I suspect it's a compromise he knows he has to make. It's a lot easier to find good pocket passers who are decently mobile, than it is to find very mobile QB's who are equally good in the passing game.

Country's top dual-threat QB Torrance Gibson blogs about visits, SAT prep, recruiting rumors and more

By: Torrance Gibson September 15, 2014 7:15 AM AST

Last season, Torrance Gibson threw for 1,789 yards with 19 touchdowns and just three interceptions; he also racked up more than 1,000 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns and led American Heritage (Plantation, Fla.) to a Class 5A state title. Gibson, the top dual-threat quarterback in the country and No. 8 overall prospect in the ESPN 300, was even nominated for an ESPN Sport Science Newton Award for Best Throw last season. That kind of clout has everyone from Tennessee to Auburn to Alabama, among many others, all giving chase. Now Gibson has agreed to give USA TODAY HSS exclusive access into his world by chronicling everything from intimate details about his recruitment to his everyday life in a blog.

Hey y’all I’m back with another blog!

Sorry it’s been a little longer since the last one, but I’ve been focusing on helping my teammates win games.

So far we’re 1-1; we lost our first game, I think we were too amped up and too hyped up. We didn’t play the way we know how to play because we were so anxious and we ended up losing.

I hated losing the game, but St. Thomas Aquinas had great athletes and they were a great team too; you’ve just gotta learn from it and put it behind you, which is what we did.

The best part is that we came out in the second game and did things different and got the win. We started off 1-1 last year and then we won states. I definitely feel like we have a chance to repeat.

I know it sounds kinda cliché but we’ve got everything that we need to win we just have to believe in each other and trust that the guys next to us is gonna have our back and do their job.

I feel like we understand that and we’re playing like it!

A lot of people were hitting me up when B. (Braxton) Miller at Ohio State had the injury; and it was hard seeing a great quarterback like that go down. I know when he comes back he’ll do big things. He’s one of the best quarterbacks in college football, and he’ll put on a show as soon as he’s back.

The recruitment is cool for me; I’m just taking things slow now.

I just found out recently that I have to take the SAT before I can take official visits so I set that up for Oct. 11. That’s gonna push everything back a little bit for me because I had originally planned to have a decision by Oct. 20; now I’m gonna set up the visits after I take the SAT and go from there. I don’t know when the new date for my decision will be, but y’all know I’ll let you know!

I haven’t locked down any dates for the officials yet either; I do know that I’ll definitely be visiting Ohio State and Oklahoma, but, like I said, I don’t know the dates yet.

I am definitely planning to use all five of my visits.

A school like Miami; I can visit them without using an official visit because they’re right down the street so that’s good. That doesn’t mean I like them any less than any other school; it’s just that since it’s close I can just drive there on my own. It’s perfect.

I’ll let y’all know when I decide on which schools I’ll be visiting for those last three officials too.

The coaches still keep in touch regularly, but it’s different because we both have our own seasons going on. They hit me up before my games giving me pointers and things like that, so it’s cool.

I’m feeling pretty good about my studying for the SAT. We’ve got a prep book that’s really helping me. I’m just worried about math! I’m studying hard on that.

I know there are a lot of rumors floating around out there about my recruitment, but you can’t listen to that stuff. You can’t stop people from posting anything crazy, but, just so y’all know, I’m not committed to anyone silently or any other way.

When I’m ready to commit, everyone will know.

It’s all about the best fit for me and not anyone else.

I definitely want to go to a school that wants me as their quarterback. Some people say I’m a safety or a receiver at the next level, but all of the schools want me as their quarterback and that’s what I plan on playing.

So far my senior year has been great; it’s a little easier when you’re a senior.

The only thing I hate is that my favorite rapper Meek Mill is in jail so I can’t get any new music to listen to! I’ve had to listen to the old Meek, but that’s been getting me by.

OK, I hope you guys enjoyed the blog and I hope I didn’t keep you guys waiting too long!

I’ll be back soon with another one!

Over the top drama queen. Academically questionable. Probably why Butch and others backed off recruiting him. Would be a great player if he can handle everything else.
