'15 FL QB/WR/DB (anything he wants) Torrance Gibson PART II

not sure if this IS, i have no clue. if we smell a primadonna, which only Butch and staff know. then dont waste a scholly this year. but if theres even a chance this kids attitude is in line. do it. sign em up. hes a talent

I will say this...after seeing how well Dobbs fits the offense (been saying he's the best fit since the Spring O/W game), I might re-consider the Dormady commitment (if I were in Bajakian's shoes), and re-visit Gibson. I don't think our offense is terribly different than Malzahn's, except that Malzahn fully realizes he NEEDS a dynamic athlete to run his system.

Butch and Bajakian seem to content trying to make pocket passers fit their scheme. They saw Kay have a decent amount of success at Cincinnati. He is much like Worley....a pocket passer, who defenses don't respect as a zone read threat.

I'd rather have Gibson and Jennings, as slightly better passing acumen isn't enough to offset the stress an athlete puts on a defense, and the boost to the running game it provides.

Ok....let's get all over that. :glare:

If it were only a football question of skill sets and talent, I would agree with you. I was still aboard the Gibson train myself until his bizarre unofficial visit back in the summer. There are just too many red flags associated with Gibson to give him a scholarship that could otherwise go to a linemen.

For what its worth, moderately mobile passing QBs can do just fine in a spread offense like ours. Chis Leak won Urban Meyer's first national championship at Florida, and he wasn't a particularly good athlete. He may or may not beat out Dobbs and Jennings, but Quentin Dormady is more than just a consolation prize for missing on Gibson.

Leak didn't have feet in concrete either. He was just good enough to get by running although it was never far.

Ohio State recruiting: State Secrets, 10/21 - Latest on Josh Wariboko, Torrance Gibson - Land-Grant Holy Land

Torrance Gibson still on the fence:

'15 QB/ATH Torrance Gibson was expected to give his commitment on Monday, but late that night Gibson would back out of his plans to commit, citing that it was bad timing with everything going on. The dual-threat quarterback has been a hot topic in Ohio State recruiting for some time, and the Buckeyes have been the only team to host Gibson on an official visit thus far.

Ari Wasserman of the Cleveland Plain Dealer makes a good point when bringing up Gibson's official visits. As mentioned above, Ohio State has been the only official visit the quarterback has taken, but even more importantly, Gibson hasn't even scheduled his other visits yet. Things are still looking good for Ohio State here, but the coaching staff will have to keep the pressure on.

The 247Sports Crystal Ball still reads in favor of Ohio State, as the Buckeyes have 77 percent of the experts' vote. Trailing behind Ohio State are Tennessee, Auburn, and Miami.

I don't get it. Other recruits, we're working hard, and sometimes have a hard time getting into it.

This guy, I don't know if we're doing anything, and we're having a hard time getting out of it!

Is OSU about to pass on him as well?

It was reported he had to take a test so he could go on OV's. Then news came out that he took said test, and it didn't matter what he scored, as long as he took it. He could at least take visits then. There had been talk of grade issues for a long time now. Maybe the test score sent up all kinds of red flags and now OSU is not ready to take him?

Does anyone else see UCF or USF for this guy? Both are in FL, both are probably easier to get into, and he could be the guy for both schools all his eligible years.

UCF has always been a viable option IMO. If OSU is backing off(only reason I could see him waiting to commit), then his grades may be bad enough that it's Juco or nothing.
