'15 FL TE Devonaire Clarington

"I was at the IMG 7-on-7 Tournament in Bradenton, Fla., where I caught up with Devonaire Clarington, a 6-foot-4, 224-pound four-star tight end out of Hialeah, Fla. He said he'll make UT his first official visit and also expressed his unhappiness with his visit to Georgia. He believes there's a perception that he'll eventually choose to stay close to home, but he's making it clear that's not necessarily what will happen."

"Keep an eye on Clarington - it will be interesting to see how his recruiting process unfolds."

If we hasn't just received a commitment from Oliver, this thread would be filled with "Vol" responses. I mean, it looks like we're sitting pretty good with this kid. I really feel like we're going to have this numbers situation every year with the way CBJ is recruiting. What a great problem to have.

We will start backing off of our recruitment with this kid, IMO. Surely, we don't try to take 2 TEs this cycle.

I notice you all keep talking about taking him over Oliver at TE. On page one, CZA talked about him playing receiver, and not tight end. I think that would be nice, considering he reminds of Kelvin Benjamin from FSU who absolutely wrecked $h!t last year. I'd take this guy over a lot of guys personally, he's an instant impact talent.

I think it's safe to assume the coaches expect the majority of the "attrition" before NSD to be at the receiver position. If I counted correctly, we will have 14 WRs on roster if we pickup Jefferson, Clarington, Bruce, and Williams and nobody transfers. More linemen please

Bowles and Blanc are two guys who I could see transferring out over the course of this next year.

Oliver reminds me of croonm, too slow to make it as a big league wr and probably not versatile enough to be used as a true te, making him a tweener(which it's my opinion that tweeners don't usually work out unless they're something special).

Let him get to college before saying he's a tweener and probably won't work out. Same goes with Croom...he's a redshirt sophomore...it used to be the norm that you didn't really expect kids to contribute much until their 3rd and 4th years in the program. You don't have to have 4.4 speed to be very effective as a WR. Croom physically looks the part to be able to destroy DBs without having elite speed. I think he has a breakout season this year, especially with all the weapons that we have now. Plus, it's his 2nd year under the same position coach, who Shawn Jefferson (a NFL WR coach) speaks highly of. Let it play out some before saying they don't usually work out.

What are you thinking by making sense?

It's only my personal assessment of his play so far. He's often been slow and dropped easy catches. Neither of these things are something you can do in a league that depends on young performers. The sec has changed in recent years and not having players be able to perform until late in their college career doesn't win games year in and year out. What happens if one year the players in a position don't pan out and the rest of the team suffers waiting a year for the next class of players to develop? What happens if you have players go pro early and you have to wait for those next players to develop? I'd be pleasantly surprised if it clicked for him this year after three years in college but until that happens I'll make judgement on what he's shown. I'm not saying he is bad, I'm just saying he hasn't been as good as needed. He still has time to show up but it's got to be this year or he won't see the field the next year with the players we have now and coming in.
