How is he ranked among the qb's? Top ten?

The official position rankings won't be out until later this week but only 6 QB's are in the top 100. 3 Pro style and 3 Dual Threat. Looks like Nunez is the #3 rated DT QB behind Stidham and Barnett.

ATLANTA — Lorenzo Nunez picked up a scholarship offer from Tennessee more than six months ago, emerging as one of the Vols’ early quarterback targets in the 2015 class.

Top247 junior quarterback Lorenzo Nunez of Harrison High School in Kennesaw, Ga., is ranked the nation's No. 151 overall prospect in the 247Sports Composite for the 2015 class.

He recently returned to Tennessee to attend his first game there.

The Top247 junior quarterback from Harrison High School in Kennesaw, Ga., who now claims more than a half-dozen offers to date, said he went to the Vols’ home finale against Vanderbilt on Nov. 23 after making his first visit to Knoxville during the summer.

“It was exciting seeing them play, seeing the environment and just the school and stuff like that, and how the coaches interacted with the players,” said Nunez, who’s ranked the nation’s No. 151 overall prospect and No. 5 dual threat-quarterback for the 2015 class in the 247Sports Composite, which equally weighs prospect rankings and ratings from major recruiting media outlets.

“It was crazy — all the orange and stuff like that. It was a pretty big environment.”

The 6-foot-2.5, 190-pound Nunez holds early offers from Ohio State, Tennessee, Clemson, Texas A&M, Kentucky, Boston College and Charlotte, and he said no one is standing out among the teams currently pursuing him.

But he said he has become plenty familiar with the Vols over the past several months by staying in contact with Tennessee offensive coordinator Mike Bajakian and wide receivers coach Zach Azzanni, and he’s already planning to return to Knoxville at some point.

“(They’re saying) just how much they like me and how they want me to come back up to the school for a junior day and talk to me and stuff like that,” Nunez said. “(I like) how straight-up they are with me, and they’re not playing games and stuff like that, and how much they like me and they talk to me, like, weekly.”

He also said Tennessee’s facilities, including the new Anderson Training Center, were “pretty neat.” But he said he’s “just looking at how the coaches interact with me and stuff like that, because all the campuses are pretty much the same.”

Nunez, who claims to have been timed at 4.55 seconds in the 40-yard dash, said the Vols have made it clear to him that they believe he would be a good fit for their spread offense.

“They like how I play, how I can spread the play out and how I can run and pass,” he said.

He said he also attended Clemson’s games against Georgia and Florida State this season and visited Ohio State for its game against Penn State on Oct. 26.

While Nunez intends to make it to at least a few schools in the coming months, he said there’s “nowhere in particular” he’s hoping to visit.

It’s still relatively early in the recruiting process for Nunez, who added his most recent offer from Texas A&M on Saturday, and he said he’s not rushing to decide on a college. But he already has identified a few factors he plans to consider as he continues weighing his options.

“Just an offense that fits me, the coaches I like, how the environment fits me and the education,” he said.

According to Clemson Rivals article Nunez's top group is believed to be UT, OSU and Clemson and they believe UT is the front runner due to "the depth chart and the presence of Josh Dobbs". It says he will be visiting UT next weekend and plans to make a decision after spring.

Sounds like it could be. Maybe if the staff doesn't feel good about Gibson or Gentry after this weekend they push for Nunez next weekend. Sounds good to me.

The staff really seems to be going hard after the dual threat guys. I'm falling somewhere between being scared of getting leftovers and having a plethora of options.

I mentioned that in a thread yesterday. If Gentry looks to be tx bound and Gibson goes to osu(as someone suggested) then maybe Nunez decides on UT vs being the 2nd QB for osu or coming in behind Watson at clemson.

If Riley gets the nod, does that negate the "Dobbs factor"?

I think he's very interested in Tennessee. He's been on campus at Tennessee probably more than any other school. I think he may be in the group right below the No. 1 target guys like Gentry, Gibson and Winbush. But, I'm hearing Tennessee is likely to try and take two quarterbacks so that may change where everyone is on the board a little.
