'15 JUCO CB Justin Martin (UT Signee 2/4/15)

1. The coaches felt we could out score BG. Mosely wasn't going to get beat for 60 points.

2. We switched to matchup zone for most of the 2nd half after we were able to make adjustments.

3. We will open up the defensive playbook a lot more against OU

After we run the matchup zone, I highly recommend that we try a 2-2-1, or maybe a box and one.

Most of it was in-game technique adjustments. Mosley was lunging too hard with his jam at the line of scrimmage against a bigger receiver. You lose a step as a smaller DB because you're not going to over power a bigger receiver. He also refused to look back for the ball while it was in the air. This was mostly due to him having to play catch up after getting beat at the line of scrimmage. Couple that with our entire vanilla defensive game plan and not generating any pressure and boom... Any decent QB would have been able to throw for 300 yards. But that's not who we are and we won't give up that many yards the rest of the season

Per Hubbs

Defensively, Justin Martin has impressed with his toughness and eagerness to battle back, sooner than later. Martin could easily have been out four to six weeks. He missed about three weeks of practice. His speed and athleticism give him a chance to impact; look for him to start on special teams units this weekend.

Chris Low was saying we aren't as good man to man as we though, so he's pretty sure we'll be in a lot more zone.

If so, maybe we can let Cam follow Shepard the entire game and play man, and let the rest of the back 6 play zone. I don't even know if that's possible but it sounds good. :)

Our defense is fine, its the offense that stinks?? Our offense will determine our W-L record. Let me know when we can throw the ball down field, if we had just a little bit of a passing game we would go at least 10-2

After Week 1: the secondary and pass rush sucks how are we ever going to stop anyone? The offense looked dominant though putting up 600 yards of offense and 60 points.

After Week 2: the offense sucks how are we ever going to move the ball on anyone? The defense looked all world shutting down such a high powered attack.

Yup, reality is somewhere in between and hopefully the result is a minimum of 9 wins.

I like Martin a lot at CB. Kid is very confident and aggressive. Moseley played his best game ever at Tennessee Saturday but it'll be hard to keep #8 off the field. He almost tipped the first TD to Perrine away. He's got the look of a natural playmaker. Competition at CB will elevate the play overall. :)

Wasn't Martin on Shepherd on the td in the corner? Martin covered that well. It was just a perfectly thrown ball.

Butch said on the radio yesterday Oklahoma had run that play 3 times already and we smothered it before it developed... Until that time. Still so proud of our defense.
