Crazy that some people don't want the team to give maximum effort in practice. As you said, these guys are competing for their spot. But also, these guys can't just flip a switch in a game and be AAs after "taking it easy" in practice everyday.
Name a team that doesn't go hard in practice
It is well known by now that the Trojans dont go live in practice. They try to keep everyone on their feet in hopes of limiting injuries as much as possible in an already-depleted squad.
So with the Trojans defensive shortcomings finally biting them last Saturday, is it time to start tackling in practice? That should fix everything, right?
Wrong. It still wouldnt be worth the risk.
It has been USC coach Lane Kiffins strategy since the middle of fall practice, and it is still a logical one. Sanctions equal fewer players, which means a team that has less tolerance for injuries that dont happen on game day.
Technically, you did name a team that does not go hard in practice. However, the last sentence about sanctions and less players makes it more of an exception than the rule. Also, do they even play defense in the Pac 12?

Is Kiffin still head coach at USC?
False. Per the nfl network the Carolina panthers asked the Miami dolphins to "tone it down" during their shared practicewant a current one? All the NFL teams and here is a story about FCS powerhouse New Hampshire
